looking out to the mull of kintyre and ailsa craig - it's about 7 in the evening and the day has been glorious. some of us are hungry for food and some just want to keep on climbing.

 dead sheep

this dessicated sheep was lying near the cliff path. it had a red mark around its neck
which was probably dye. both its hind legs were in different places further along the track. someone said to me afterwards that last year dead cattle and sheep were just dumped over the cliff to rot on the sea shore. this corpse was wind dried and didn't stink.

crannogs in a lake, and to the south a bank of clouds. the north west wind kept the head clear of any rain. later we heard that there had been fierce thunder storms in dublin.

the view from ballycastle just before we go in and get our dinner. i'm starving but this sunset is just so lilac and orange
i have to run across the road and take this picture. a minute later all the colours have faded and twilight proper sets in.

i didn't know then that on sunday i would have another fantastic day when i seconded an amazing climb called burn up, a 3 pitch hvs that's 5a all the way up.

even the approach thru a cathedral like steep descent called grey man's gully was awesome.
