In
February 2002, the Boherbuoy Band restarted a junior band. Gone
for over 15 years, the new junior band is a welcome addition to
our tradition of teaching music to young people. Seen below is the
current junior band of 12 in all (one person is missing from the
photo)

Members
from the senior band teach the young players on a weekly basis
during the year, and have shown remarkable improvement since they
first held an instrument in February 2002. The current junior
band made their debut at our Christmas 2002 concert and they performed
again at our Summer Concert in June 2003(below)

The
current junior band will begin to rehearse, for a short period
each week, with the senior band from the beginning of 2004, while
continuing their classes with the senior band members. At the
start of 2004 we will also be recruiting for new members to begin
learning music at the Bandroom.
While
some instruments are owned by the students, the majority are provided
by the band, as the cost involved would prevent the young person
from learning music. We do not think this barrier should be put
in the way of the child or their family. However, the band can
only afford a certain number of instruments, and we would welcome
any support from the community. Should you or your company be
interested in sponsoring an instrument for one or more of these
young people, please contact us and
we would be delighted to talk to you about a sponsorship deal.
