Pobal Bri was founded in April 1988, when the committee purchased a lawnmower to cut the greens and created flower and shrub beds to enhance the village.  The founding members had a vision for Bree to provide a clean, well presented, litter free living environment for the Community.  With the help and co-operation of Bree Development Group Ltd. a major landscaping plan was drawn up.  The results of this plan are already evident, in particular, the revamping of the Old Weigh Bridge in the centre of the village. The garden features a very special sculpture by renowned sculptor the late Dick Joynt.     His daughters Rachel and Julie kindly donated the sculpture “Mother & Child” to his adopted community and it was accepted with great pride in Nov 2003.

Bree was very successful in the Tidy Towns Competition in 2003,  scoring ten  points more than in 2002 and won the “Most Improved Entry in the County”.   Bree won the Supervalu 'Endeavour Award' as well as a cheque for €650.  This was Bree’s first award and the only Wexford winner.  Bree continued to progress with the Tidy Towns Competition e.g. 167 points in 1998 to 231points in 2006 an increase of 64 in 8 years.  In 2007 a further 8 points was awarded, all the markings are as follows for '07.  (see table below)

The Annual Co. Council Keep Wexford Beautiful Environmental Awards were presented in The Ferrycarrig Hotel on Mon 6th November.  Bree won 1st Place in the category “Best Environmentally Presented”  Village in 2006.  The committee was presented with a plaque and a cheque for €400 to help fund ongoing development projects in the village.  The committee undertakes a whole range of activities from litter clean ups, planting schemes, heritage preservation, protecting natural wildlife habitats, recycling and waste reduction initiatives.

Bird boxes have been placed on green areas in the village centre, and ivy and Trees have been planted in the school car park to encourage wildlife.  A special all weather Historical Wildlife Board has been erected in the School Carpark for the use of residents and visitors alike.    While our village is small it has great potential to progress further in the Tidy Towns and Co. Council Environmental Awards.  The continued success of this valuable work needs your participation and continued support.
