Bree Community Tidy Towns is an organisation committed to raising awareness of how precious our natural environment is, and realising what we can achieve when we work together. It is about building community spirit and sharing a sense of pride and respect for our natural environs.

The development, refurbishment and ongoing maintenance of the green spaces throughout the village have made an enormous contribution to the quality of life of the locals.  The combination of tree, shrubs and bedding plants has created an aesthetically pleasing space for the community.  The well maintained greens on the housing estates encourages the residents to have pride in these open spaces.  The permanent planting programme has been ongoing for many years.  The success of this
planting can be seen on the south approach road to the village and the entrance to Knockduff lined with Malus Crab Apple Trees. The village green areas have Silver Birch, Acers, Maples and Cherry Trees under planted with spring bulbs.

The village car park is planted with Lime Trees and the boundary wall is softened with ivy.  The village footpaths from the Community Centre to Carrickmacogue Housing Estate provide safe passage for both young and old. The Hartcaste seats on the village greens provide an oasis to relax and enjoy the moment!   The entrance to the Community Centre has been planted with native beech hedging.   Environmental awareness is a vital part of our village plan and we are developing a wildlife area.

A derelict old stone building (old band room, Bree lane) is being dismantled and recycled to build a stone wall and entrance for a wildlife garden. This sanctuary will provide cover for plants, insects, birds and native wildflowers.  It will also educate us about the concept of biodiversity and how it can be protected in our community.   A sensory area is being developed in the Dick Joynt Memorial Garden in the centre of the village.   The garden will include a stone water feature, sculpture, a living willow chair, bamboos, herbs and perfumed plants. Volunteers have worked on many projects not readily visible such as the opening up of the walkway from Carrig to Bree Hill and Craan, the clearing of the debris at the bridge linking Bree and Davidstown parishes at Wilton.
