County Wexford Community Arts Network

The County Wexford Community Arts Network is a structure whereby artists and communities are brought together to make community arts happen in County Wexford. Community Arts is a process where artists work with groups of people, and together they participate in the making and creating of all types of art. In Community Arts, the process of producing art and the development of the artistic capacity of the participants is as important as the outcome. It is during the artistic process that participants explore their creativity, interact and exchange ideas with others, and learn new skills. Nineteen artists are on the CWCAN Panel.' Interested Community Groups are encouraged to become familiar with the artists in order to develop ideas into project proposals. These proposals are then submitted to the Arts Department for consideration. Wexford County Council will provide 50% funding, up to a maximum of €3,500 per project. The remaining 50% is matched by community groups. This can be costed as direct funding, voluntary labour and/or in kind contributions. There will be two deadlines for receipt of project proposals in 2011: 31st March and 28th July. In order to ensure the Community Group is a viable, sustainable group, we only accept proposals from Community Groups that are members of the Community Forum.

Now in its fifth year, an eclectic mix of projects have taken place to date, incorporating drama, dance, visual art, sculpture, street theatre, creative
writing, film and music. The Arts Department is delighted to administer and manage this project as it is an excellent way to roll out different artforms to
different groups, throughout the four corners of County Wexford. For guidelines, please contact the Arts Department on 053 9176369 / arts@wexfordcoco.ie.
