EDERMINE FERRY ROWING CLUB NEWS
The
teams of Edermine Ferry Rowing Club have recently returned from the 2009 All Ireland
Coastal Rowing Championships held in Waterville, Co. Kerry.
The event took place over the weekend of August 22nd and 23rd
on the beautiful Kerry coast. The club was
well represented taking part in 9 of the races over the 2 days. In conditions that were less than ideal our
various teams braved the choppy windy waters of the Kerry coastline in what has to be the
most gruelling of sports. While the results
did not reflect the determination and preparation of the crews involved, to have taken
part in itself was reward enough. This is a
sport that tests the stamina of each person and none more so than the under 12 girls crew
of Edermine Ferry who qualified in their heat on Saturday to face the elements again on
Sunday, 2 hours later than scheduled due to rough sea conditions rendering the rowing
unsafe. The veteran Mens team were first out
on Sunday and while being barely piped at the post, they left the fellow veterans with no
illusions that they are a crew to be feared having fought a very tough battle to the
finish line. The 2nd race out was
the under 12 girls who also proved to be fearless in their quest for gold. While Edermine Ferry returned without the medals
this year, they bring home with them memories of the ultimate reward. To have taken part, to have rowed and to have
crossed the finish line is every rowers dream. To
have watched from the banks was remarkable but to have taken part was exhilarating. Congratulations to all who took part, who
supported, who enjoyed the experience, proving that Edermine Ferry Rowing Club is growing
from strength to strength. We look forward to
next years event which will take place in Whitegate Co. Cork. In the meantime our crews will not rest on their
laurels, we will take part in the Heritage row on Saturday 29th, the Barrow 18k
and some will cross the waters to take part in the Thames row. BREE PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP
Bree Parent and Toddler Group

from 10.30 a.m. All Dads, Mums, Grandparents
and Minders are welcome. For further
