WELCOME FR. MURPHY We extend a warm welcome to Fr. Frank
Murphy who will take up his appointment as Parish Priest of Bree in the coming week. Fr. Murphy who is a native of Taghmon was ordained
to the Priesthood in 1981. Fr. Murphy has
served on the teaching staff of St. Peters College where he taught Philosophy. He has also served in appointments in |

BREE FAIR DAY
Many thanks to all who supported Bree Fair Day which was held at Bree Community Centre on the August Bank Holiday Monday. There was a large crowd in attendance who was entertained for most of the day by young people from around the county competing in the Talent Competitions. Clodagh and Stephanie Kinsella from Clonroche were the overall winners in the U18 section with locals Sean Hogan and Mark McKelvie as runners up. Local Irish Dance Group Army Chicks (Moya Neary, Louise Butler, Sophie McCabe and Kasey Doyle) were the overall winners in the U13 section with Disco Dancer Amy Doyle from Clonroche in second place and a tie for third between Davidstown Gymnast Katie Mai McCabe and local singer Jack Power. There was also great interest in the Skittles Tournament with twenty one teams competing for the Fr Aidan Kavanagh Memorial Cup. Winners in this competition were Graham Parker, Shane Doyle, Daragh & Conor Byrne and the runners-up were Enda & Ronan Minogue, Anthony & Shane Butler. There was good participation in the Childrens Art and Photography Competitions as well as the Baking Competitions. Grainne Byrne was the overall winner in the Art Competition. Well done to all who took part in all of the the activities and to all of the Bree Fair Day Committee and Volunteers who made everything run so smoothly. Your support is very much appreciated. Thankyou also to all who sold and bought lines in the Householders draw. The results of the draw are as follows: 1st prize WFC Oil Voucher Ciara Lewis c/o Sharon Lewis, Bree Lane, 2nd prize - 100 Deirdre Duffy c/o Paud Moriarty, Bree, 3rd Prize Hamper Zelpha Jacob, 4th Prize Bottle Champagne Paul and Joanne Nolan, Craan, 5th Prize Wine and Chocolates Mary Hegarty, Monageer, 6th Prize Tin of Biscuits Gavin Jordan, Clonmore. The Winner of the Best Garden Competition was Ann Roche, Coolteigue and the winner of the Best Produce Competition was B. Furlong.

SOCCER CLUB REGISTRATION NIGHT;
Registration night for girls U10 to U16 will take place on Monday Aug 15th at 7pm in meeting room Bree Hall. Reg fee is 20. If its your first year to register please bring along birth cert. Womens team registration will take place on the same night. Reg fee for womens team is 50 euro. We look forward to seeing you all on the night.
The
Comhaltas Seisiún
Sessions, in association with Celtic Roots, have returned to Bree Community Centre and
continue weekly on Tuesday nights at 8.30pm for the months of July and August. Each
session begins with the serving of scones and tea / coffee followed by a full programme of
Music, Song, Dance and Storytelling. Cost is 10 for adults with concessions for
large groups and children. For bookings and further details contact 087-7535354.

Tidy Towns will judge the village and approach roads
through the months of June, July and August. Our
2011 application relies on the support of the community to take pride in their local
environment and to take action against litter and waste.
Bree Tidy Towns are registered with the Green Home Scheme (An

minimisation score by joining the programme. To

and select Bree Community Tidy Towns in the register now section. Take 5
minutes to fill in the online survey and check out the waste, energy, transport and water
action plans. The adjudicators will take
note of the number of households who register.

BALLYHOGUE
GAA NEWS
Well done to the
intermediate football team who beat Kilrush on Sunday evening. In a close game Ballyhogue
finally ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-6. They now face Marshalstown in their
final group game on Sunday August 14th at 5 p.m. in Pat's Park. The U16 footballers also had a good win over
Cloughbawn in their recent championship game continuing their form in their games to date.
Anyone interested in attending the reunion of championship winning players from the
sixties, seventies and eighties which will take place on October 15th can contact any
committee member for tickets. This will be a great night and will give all involved a
great opportunity to catch up and relive victories of yore.

Stephen Donohoe taking part in the National Finals in Athlone next weekend.

ATHLETIC TRAINING
Best wishes to all athletes taking part in the National Community Games Finals in Athlone on the weekend after next. Training for all other athletes has ceased for this summer season. Bree AC members will resume training in late September for the winter season.

Congratulations to Tony
Stafford who added another National title to what has been a fantastic year for Tony when
he jumped a life time best of 6.80 m to win the U18 All Ireland long Jump. Tony has been picked to go on to represent
