Preparations
are currently underway by the choir for the Christmas Masses and with this in mind there
will be a choir practice in the church at 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening next, December 9th. All are most welcome to attend.
The 2009
selection of hand painted Christmas Cards sold in aid of the HOPE Cancer Support Centre,
Enniscorthy are now available from Bree Parish Office and Bree Post Office. A pack of 6 cards cost 6. All support would be greatly appreciated.
The
Bree Active Retirement Christmas Social Afternoon took place on Wednesday afternoon last. A large group were treated to a delicious meal
followed by lots of festive fun and entertainment. The
groups main fundraising draw was held on the day with the winners as follows Bernie
Kelly, Fr. Kavanagh and Ml. Foley. The
winners of prizes in the raffle held on the day were Peter Byrne, Pat Darcy, Hannah
Carr, Nuala Flynn, Joe Delaney, Anne Byrne, Jim Flynn, Josie Darcy, Paddy
McLoughlin, Trish Walsh, Geraldine Doyle, Bridie Walsh, Leslie Dunne, Jean Harris, Kitty
Walsh, Teddy Doyle, Bee Fenlon, Nicky Codd, Bill Rossitter, Aidan Leacy, Bridget Fortune,
Anna Cahill, Mary Morrissey and Nick Fortune. The
Active Retirement group would like to take this opportunity to extend their thanks to all
who helped in any way to make the day such a success.
A special thankyou to Brendan Darcy who prepared and cooked the
beautiful meal, thankyou to Nicola, Lily, Eileen, Anna, Catriona, Yvonne, Maggie and
Bilsie for all their help in the run up to the day in delivering invitations and cards,
collecting prizes, setting up the hall, serving the meal and clearing up afterwards. Thankyou also to Leslie Dunne who provided
the entertainment for the afternoon. And thankyou also to the members of the Active
Retirement Group who played a large part in the day.
Bree
AC AGM takes place in Bree Community Centre on Monday 15th Dec at 8pm. All families are
asked to be represented.
The
annual Bag Packing Fundraiser in association with Bree AC takes place in Dunne's Stores,
Enniscorthy from 9am to 9pm on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th December. Please
book your preferred time with Clare on 087-4151350.
Bree
ICA are holding a Cabaret in aid of the Community Centre Refurishment in Byrnes of Bree on
Saturday evening, December 6th at 10 p.m.
All support would be greatly appreciated.
There will be a Christmas Bazaar in Galbally Hall on Sunday, December 14th. Cards for the raffle are currently being distributed to each household.
There
is a senior disco scheduled for Friday December 19th in Bree Community Centre at 9pm.
Admission is 3.00. All those attending
must be registered members of the club and should wait outside for their leaders to escort
them in. The junior club will meet at 7pm as usual, on the same night. Our annual carol
singing fundraiser will take place outside the church after mass on Saturday 20th
December. It has been decided that the proceeds will be shared between HOPE and The Nicole
Cahill Fund. We would appreciate your support on the night so please bring your children
who attend youth club, along to sing. Practice
for the carol singing will take place on club nights and on Tuesday 16th December and
Thursday 18th December from 7 - 8pm in the community centre. There will be no youth club
on Friday 12th December. The Senior Variety Show will take place on Friday 16th January
2009. Rehearsals will take place on
club nights and on Thursday evenings commencing on Thursday 18th December at 7pm. As there
will be a break from
youth club over the Christmas period we recommend that participants also rehearse at home.
The last senior club night before Christmas is Friday 5th December and for juniors it is
the 19th December. Youth Club resumes after Christmas on Friday 9th January 2009.
Now that we are
into the dark winter evenings, tennis for children has come to an end for this year. We
plan on resuming lessons in Spring. Details
will be given in future editions of the Newsletter and local press. Club members who have
been attending lessons will receive a text
notifying them of the start date. Adult lessons will cease over the Christmas period and
will resume mid January on Wednesdays at 1.45pm. The exact date will be advertised after
Christmas.
BREE MACRA NEWS
Well done to Richard Murphy who recently won the County Welding Final. Richard will
represent Bree and Co Wexford in the National Finals, which take place in Bishopstown, Co
Cork on 12th December. Best wishes to Bree Macra Capers Group competing on this Saturday
night in Bree Community Centre. The evening's entertainment begins at 8pm with the Co
Public Speaking and Impromptu Public Speaking Finals followed by the Capers Final. The Co
Ladies and Gents Five-a- Side soccer takes place next weekend. Best wishes to all
involved. Anyone wishing to join Macra can contact Brendan Byrne on 085-1544576 for
further information.
The Diocesan Readoiri Finals
took place on Saturday night last. The Bree Centre was represented in Novelty Act, which
qualified for the Leinster finals, and in the Group Music. Novelty Act members were Amy
Flanagan, Cait Doyle, Enda Minogue, Ronan Minogue, Alan Kavanagh and John Kehoe and the
Group Music members were Niamh C Rochford, Aoife C Rochford, Conor Byrne, Daragh Byrne and
Cormac Byrne which gave a very fine performance. Well done to all concerned.
CHRISTMAS
CONCERT
A Children's Christmas Concert will be held in Bree Community Centre on next Saturday 13th
and Sunday 14th of December. Tickets at Adult 10 and Children / Student / OAP 5
will be on sale in Bree Community Centre on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th from 6.30-10. Due
to the large number of local children involved in the show it is advisable to purchase
tickets early to avoid disappointment. All proceeds will go towards the Refurbishment of
Bree Community Centre.
Walkway
The walkway
around the Club Grounds is open daily and is lit until 10 o'clock. If you
should wish to walk your dog on the track we would ask that you would
respect other users by keeping your dog on a lead at all times and always being
careful to clean up after your pet.
Footballers
Defeat
Hard luck to
our minor footballers who lost out to Kilmore in the County-semi final on Sunday
last. A big thank you to everyone involved.
Well
Done
The
Enniscorthy District won their first round on Saturday last in the District tournament
against Wexford in Taghmon. Denny Tyrrell was part of the management. Sean O'Neill,
Richard Dunne, Hugh O'Neill, Gavin Doyle, Eddie Galavan and Jim-Bob Levingstone
all took part. Their next game will be on
Friday night at 8.30 in Bunclody against the Gorey District.
Club AGM
The Club AGM
will take place in late January, the date will be advertised in coming editions of the
Newsletter and local press.
Bree
Playschool children have produced packs of handmade Christmas Cards which are now
available from the Playschool and Bree Post Office. The
cards come in packs of three costing 4 with all proceeds going to the Playschool. All support would be greatly appreciated.
The
Wexford School of Ballet and Modern Dance presents Tchaikovskys The Nutcracker
Suite in Wexford Opera House on Sunday December 7th with a Matinee Show
at 3 p.m. and a Night Show at 8 p.m. For bookings contact 053 9122144. Best wishes to local girl Lauren OLeary who
is one of the dancers in the show.
