Bree Community Notices

 Ballybrennan PatronThe Patron in Ballybrennan Cemetery will take place on Friday evening, July 20th at 7:00 pm.  Weather permitting, Mass will be celebrated.

Bree Patron—The Annual Bree Patron will take place on Sunday August 19th.

Calor Community Champion 2012 – The Search for Ireland’s unsung heroes Calor understands the work carried out each day by unsung local volunteers in parishes across the diocese of Ferns. They have launched the ‘Calor Community Champion 2012’ to give recognition and 10,000 reward to those who go above and beyond the call in our parishes, who  get things done, and work tirelessly each day to improve the lives of the people around them.  The winner will receive €1,500 and a bursary of 7,500 to give to their nominated charity or local organisation.   Calor will provide €500 for the person or organisation that nominated them.  Nominations to crown this year’s champion volunteer will close at the end of July.  Developments in Bree The Department of Education & Skills recently approved grants to the Board of Management at Scoil Seosaimh Naofa to replace the existing pre-fab classrooms and the provision of an extra classroom.  This project is well underway:  the final plans for the new building have been decided and  the planning application should be lodged this week.  The existing two pre-fab classrooms will continue in use during the building phase and the existing CEP/Parish Office pre-fab will also be required for school purposes.  As a result, the CEP Office is in the process of transferring to new accommodation in Bree Community Centre.   This transfer will be completed shortly. For Sale: Due to the re-location Bree CEP has the following items available for sale—7 new Venetian blinds—silver/white in colour—installed new last year.  Also four wooden computer desks.  If interested, please contact Elaine at 053 9247613.

Bring and Buy Sale—A Bring and Buy Sale in aid of Clonmore Church Repairs will take place on Sat July 14th at Merton, Bree from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Garden Plants, Cakes, Raffle and Tea Served all afternoon. 

Bree Heritage Project Display Boards The Bree Heritage project has purchased information display boards for Clonmore and Ballybrennan churchyard/cemeteries, which we hope to erect shortly. Bree Parents Association News Bree Parent's Association would like to congratulate Principal Essie Morris, all of the staff, the Board of Management and all the students of Bree NS on the achievement of their new Green Flag .The flag was raised by Mr. Paul Kehoe who was ably assisted by Ms. Sarah Carley ( Junior Infants ) and  Dean Kennedy (Sixth Class ).  The weather was glorious, the school looked superb and great fun was had by all.  Congratulations and thanks also to Mr. Coffey and the Green School Committee for all their hard work.  The Committee would like to thank all the parents who contributed their time and talent to produce some fabulous cakes and refreshments for the day. Seisiun returns to Bree Community Centre The ‘Comhaltas Seisiún’ Sessions, in association with Celtic Roots, return to Bree Hall for its summer season on this Tuesday, 10th July and continue weekly on Tuesday nights at 8.30pm for July and August. Each Session begins with the serving of scones and tea / coffee followed by a full programme of Music, Song, Dance and Storytelling. Cost is €10 for adults with concessions for large groups and children. For bookings and further details contact 087-7535354.

Bree Fair Day The Annual Bree Fair Day will be held on Sun, 5th Aug. Once again it will feature the usual stalls along with children’s Fancy Dress Comp, Go Karts, Best Dressed Pet, Best Produce, Art and Photographic Competitions, Children’s Baking Competitions and Best Container/window box. Talent Competitions (U13 & U18) and Skittles Tournaments (U16 & Senior) will be the main features on the day. Volunteers to assist with any stall would be very welcome. Please contact Eddie Dunne. The Annual Householders draw will also be held in association with Bree Fair Day. Cards for this draw will be distributed shortly.

Community Games Athletic Finals Well done to all of the Bree Davidstown Community Games athletes who competed in the Athletic Finals recently in Craanford. A total of thirty eight gold medals, sixteen silver medals and three bronze medals were won by the local athletes. 15 individuals as well as four relays-Mixed U10, Boys U12, Girls U14 and Mixed U15 will represent the area and the county in the National Finals in Athlone this August. The individual winners were U8 Amy Doyle (60m) and Leah Nolan (80m); U10 Katie Whelan (100m), Sophie Codd (Hurdles) and Liam Doyle (Hurdles); U12 Katie Mai McCabe (600m), Kate Fenlon (Ball Throw) and John Kehoe (100m); U14 Aoife Cloke Rochford (100m), Annalise Crean (800m), Sophie McCabe (Long Jump), Chloe Whelan (Hurdles), Katlyn Furlong (Shot Putt) and Ryan Murray (Hurdles); U16 Niamh Cloke Rochford (Javelin). Silver medal winners were U10 Lucy Kehoe (Hurdles); U12 Ava Dempsey (Ball Throw) and Cian Wickham (Ball Throw); U14 Shane Fenlon (100m) and U16 Aideen Kane (100m). Bronze medal winners were U10 Ben Harrington (Hurdles); U14 Nicole Furlong (100m) and Dean Doyle (100m). Finalists were U8 Ciara Byrne (60m), U10 Roisin Kennedy (200m) and Cillian Doyle (100m); U12 Daire Cloke Rochford (100m). Also competing were Conor Hassey, Aaron O’Connor, Ryan Whelan, Oisin Cloke Rochford and Conor Rodgers. Gold medal Relay winners were U10 Liam Doyle, Sophie Codd, Katie Whelan, Cillian Doyle, Lucy Kehoe and Leon Sinnott; U12 John Kehoe, Daire Cloke Rochford, Cian Wickham, Peter Rodgers, Eamonn Doyle and Paul Roche; U14 Chloe Whelan, Aoife Cloke Rochford, Nicole Furlong, Sophie McCabe and Olivia Howe and U15 Mixed was Kasey Doyle, Aideen Kane, Aoife Codd, Ryan Murray, Daragh Byrne and Fin Condon. Silver medal relay winners were U13 Mixed Colm Parnell, Paul Roche, Olivia Howe, Katie Mai McCabe, Ava Dempsey and Jim Doyle and U14 Dean Doyle, Shane Fenlon, Enda Minogue, Brandon Sinnott and Nick Doyle. Well done to all involved. Bree Davidstown was also winners of the best banner competition. Training continues on Mon and Wed at 7pm. Contact local Sec Una Doyle on 0879704372.

Karate Classes Starting Thurs 12th July, karate lessons for children and adults will take place on Thurs evenings instead of Tues evenings for the summer months.  There will be no lesson on Tues 10th July. Bree Active Retirement Outing Bree Active Retirement Group have an outing planned for Wednesday July 18th next to Rathwood, Wildflower Crafts, Shillelagh, and lunch in Tinahealy.   The cost is 32 per person with the bus leaving from Bree Community Centre at 10 a.m. sharp and returning at 6.30 p.m. approx.  For further information please or to reserve a seat contact 089 4616413.
