CELTIC ROOTS


Celtic Roots are hosting a Full Irish Cabaret of Music, Song, Dance and Storytelling followed by a Ceili in Belfield GAA Complex, Enniscorthy on this Easter Sunday night at 8.30pm. Admission is €10 with Family Concessions. The Wexford Academy Lotto will be drawn on the night. Twenty-five Celtic Roots members have been invited to Japan for the World Song and Dance Festival, which will be held there in August this year.

WHO’S GOT TALENT ? – 2009

Preparations are underway for 'Who's Got Talent? Competition in association with Celtic Roots. Qualifying rounds will be held in Bree Community Centre during the month of May, with semi finals and the Grand Final in June. This year's competition caters for U13 and U18 age groups.  Full details in future editions.

YOUTH CLUB NEWS

Well done to Ciall Humphrey, Joseph Carley and Kalebh Grocock for representing Bree Youth Club in the Darts and Pool Competitions on Friday 3rd April in Caim Hall. Congratulations to the Caim teams and better luck next time to the Bree lads. Youth Club will not meet on Good Friday, 10th April. Club nights resume on Friday, 17th April at the usual times.

BREE AC NEWS

Well done to all of the Bree AC athletes who competed with great success in the National Indoor Finals, which were held in Magherafelt last weekend. Shane Byrne won the Gold Medal in the U16 Walk and his brother, Cormac won the Gold Medal in the U13 Walk. Training continues in Ballyhogue GAA pitch on Monday and Wednesdays from 6.30 to 8pm for all athletes aged seven years and over. New members are welcome. COMMUNITY GAMES NEWS

Hard luck to the U13 Girls's Indoor Soccer team of Ciara McKelvie, Annie Stafford, Aishling Byrne, Jo Murphy, Sophie Forte, Ciara Howe, Niamh Rochford and Grainne Byrne which were beaten by Westmeath in the Leinster Semi Final in sudden death penalty shootout last weekend after both teams drawing at full time. Team manager was Betty Kelly. The Bree / Davidstown Community Games Sports for Preschools to U16 will be held in Ballyhogue GAA field on Sunday, 17th May at 6pm. The Co Community Games Track & Field Championships will be held in Bree on Sunday 14th June. Contact area Sec. Una Doyle on 087-9704372 for further. GALBALLY CHURCH RESTORATION


At a recent open meeting it was decided to begin fundraising for the restoration work on the Church spire. A tractor run will take place on Sunday 31st May and a monthly draw will begin on the 1st Sunday in May.  Your support will be greatly appreciated.

BLUE LACE CABARET

Bree AC is hosting a Fundraising Cabaret with Blue Lace in Garry Byrne's Lounge on this Easter Saturday Night. Admission is €5 with door prizes. Your support would be appreciated.

BALLYHOGUE NS ENROLMENTS

U12 BOYS  SOCCER

The Bree Boys U12 Soccer had a home win 1 0 in the cup against Wexford. Shane Doyle scored the only goal of the match.

U10 GIRLS SOCCER

Congratulations to the U10 Girls Soccer team who are through to the final of the Regional Cup Competition.  The date and venue are to yet be decided.

BREE ICA NEWS

Bree ICA Committee meeting takes place on Tuesday, April 14th with the next Guild meeting on Tuesday April 21st. The competition for the next meeting is for the "nicest delph teapot". Ladies are reminded to bring along toiletry donations for the women's refuge collection. New members to the Guild are most welcome.

BREE COMMUNITY CENTRE UPDATE

Bree Community Centre AGM was held recently. The Community Centre continued to cater for numerous activities during 2008 including Irish Dancing, Community Games, Pioneer Competitions, Youth Club, Indoor Hurling, Music Classes, Sewing Classes, ICA Activities, Retirement Group, Billiards and Snooker, Playschool, Birthday Parties, Funeral Catering and Meetings for various organisations.  The highlight of the year was the Parish Celebration of the ordination of Fr Tomas Kehoe in June. Other notable events were 'Who's Got Talent?', 'Climbing Mount Everest', 'Comhaltas Sessiun', 'Celtic Roots International Folkdance Festival' 'Patron Sunday Indoor Event' and 'Children's Christmas Concert'. The New Trustees, Clare Doyle, Paud Moriarty, Eddie Dunne and Larry Crean, have now legally been put in place. Wexford County Council has approved the provision of a playground on the grounds. Government has approved the building of a new Community Playschool by Bree Community Development Group on a leased grounds site. New railings were put up on the grounds, courtesy of Patrick Hennessey.   The Committee acknowledged the hard work of the Refurbishment Committee and various local organisations, which has raised €120,000 to date. However, disappointment was expressed that no grant-aided funds from any Government Agency have been received thus far. The Refurbishment Committee will continue with its plans to acquire grant funding.   The Community Centre Committee for the coming year is Chairman; Rev Fr Aidan Kavanagh, Vice Chairman; Martin Humphrey; Secretary; Bridie Galavan, Assistant Sec; Paula Forte, Treasurer; Eddie Dunne, Assistant Treasurer; Billy Whelan, PRO; Clare Doyle, and Youth officer; Charlie Parnell. Other Committee Members are David Minogue, Paud Moriarty, Larry Crean, Peter Byrne, Breda Donohoe, Steve Donohoe, Kay McKelvie, Ena Doyle, Breda Dunne, PJ Darcy, Mary Leacy, Tony Hennebry and Derry Byrne. The Chairman Fr Aidan Kavanagh thanked all people involved with the Community Centre for their wonderful work on behalf of the Community Centre during the past year. The next Community Centre meeting will be held on the 29th June. A Refurbishment Committee meeting will be held on the 20th April

ACTIVE RETIREMENT SOCIAL AFTERNOON

The April Bree Active Retirement Social Afternoon will take place on THURSDAY next, April 16th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Bree Community Centre.  All are most welcome to attend.  Please note change to Thursday instead of the usual Wednesday due to no ESB in the Community Centre on Wednesday.

ART CLASSES FOR CHILDREN

Art Classes for Children will commence in Bree Community Centre on Tuesday April 21st from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. with tutor Sinead Ryan.  To book a place please contact Sinead on 087 2384779 – early booking is advisable.  (Sinead is a graduate of the National College of Art and Design, registered with the Teaching Council and holds a current Garda Vetting Clearance Certificate).
