Holy Week Programme – Bree – 2011

Masses
Mass on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 9 a.m.
Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
Celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Easter Vigil on Saturday evening at 9 p.m.
Mass on Easter Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

Confessions
Confessions on Tuesday from 2.30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.
Confessions on Wednesday from 2 .30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. and also 7.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.
Confessions on Good Friday from 5.15 p.m. – Fr. Boggan will be present on Good Friday for Confessions.
Confessions on Saturday from 2 .30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. and also from 7.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Fast and Abstinence
Good Friday will be a fast day with abstinence from meat.

Readers Practice
There will be a practice for all readers in the Church on Wednesday evening next at 8.00 p.m.

Blessing of Salt
Salt will be blessed on Easter Sunday Morning at 10 a.m. Mass.

Trocaire Boxes
The Trocaire Boxes will be presented at the offertory of the Mass on Holy Thursday evening.  Please bring them along and drop them into the container at the back of the church.

Invalids
The Invalids will be visited as follows over the coming week:
Monday morning – Wilton and Ballybrennan areas.
Tuesday morning – Bree and Coolteigue areas.

Eucharistic Adoration
Eucharistic Adoration continues on Monday next from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Envelope Collection
The Sunday Envelope Collection last Sunday amounted to €608.00.  Thank you to all who contributed

BREE / DAVIDSTOWN COMMUNITY GAMES

The Co Community Games Swimming Finals were held on Saturday last in New Ross. Bree / Davidstown were represented by five swimmers and all performed extremely well. Silver medalists were Niamh Doyle (Carrig) in the U8 Freestyle, Christopher Reidy (Carrig) in the U10 Freestyle and Sarah Byrne (Ballyhogue) in the U12 Backstroke. Benjamin Reidy (Carrig) in the U8 Freestyle won a bronze medal. Narrowly missing out on a medal, by finishing in fourth place in the U10 Freestyle final was Sarah Doyle (Carrig). Well done to all involved.

BALLYHOGUE HANDBALL NEWS

Best of luck to the Ballyhogue Handball doubles teams who all qualified for their respective County finals to be held in St. Joseph’s Wexford Town on Easter Sunday.  Colm Parnell, Cian Wickham (under 11) Enda Minogue, Anthony Butler (under 12) and Kenneth Riordan, Liam Rossiter (under 13). Go For Gold lads.

THE HIGH KINGS

‘The High Kings’ make a return visit to the Riverside Park Hotel on Thursday, 5th May. Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets @€30 are available at the parish office and at the Hotel Reception. Proceeds are in aid of Phase 3 Refurbishment of Bree Community Centre. Your support would be appreciated.

ATHLETICS NEWS

Training continues for all athletes age U5 upwards in Ballyhogue GAA Club grounds every Monday and Wednesday evening from 6.30pm – 7.30pm. €2 per training session to a max of €5 per family. Training for Bree AC members continues until 8pm. New members are always welcome. The Co Athletic Championships take place on the 1st May in the DMP Grounds, Sinnottstown Lane and on the 8th May in Bree. Best wishes to all involved.

WORLD YOUTH DAY

The World Youth Day pilgrims have organised a service of ‘Prayer around the Cross’ in St. Aidan’s Cathedral, Enniscorthy, on Good Friday evening at 7.30 p.m. Young people of all ages are especially welcome.  There are also still a few places available for the World Youth Day pilgrimage to Madrid, next August for anyone interested in going.

KNOCK SUMMER FESTIVAL 2011-‘FUEL FOR THE JOURNEY’ 24TH – 26TH JUNE

The Knock Summer Festival takes place this June in Knock.  The festival is a three day event and over the three days, there will be talks, workshops, prayer reflection, music and much more happening.  It is a chance to come away and explore, ignite and celebrate your faith.  The festival is for all people ages 18-35 and the cost of the weekend is €70 (this includes all your food and accommodation).  For more info contact the youth ministry on 0949388100/0876927850.  Look for us on facebook or check out.

FERNS KNOCK PILGRIMAGE

This year, the Ferns Knock Pilgrimage will take place on Saturday 25th June 2011 (not Sunday 3rd July).  Saturday 25th June has been set aside as a day of preparation and celebration of the National Eucharistic Congress in Knock and it has been decided that the Diocese of Ferns would participate in this day with other 25 Dioceses’ in Ireland.

NATIONAL DANCING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Best wishes to all Wexford Academy Dancers competing in the National Finals in the Basketball Arena in Tallaght this weekend.  The dancing class is developing a Dance Studio in the former playgroup room in Bree Community Centre at present. The official opening of this Dance Studio takes place, in conjunction with the Charity Auction, on Easter Monday.  Best wishes to all involved.

CLOTHING COLLECTION

Dochas Nasamu, which is an IRISH RUN AND IRISH BUILT ORPHANAGE, Nairobi, Kenya, are holding a Used clothing appeal of ladies, gents and children’s    clothes, shoes, household linens i.e. towels, sheets, blankets etc.  Also, soft toys. GAA LOTTO NEWS

Congratulation to Lorraine Sullivan, Edward Somers, Larry Crean, Laura Butler and Denis Ryan who matched 3 numbers in the Ballyhogue G.A.A. Lotto. The jackpot will now be E4400 for the next draw, which takes place in Byrnes of Bree on April 20th. Well done to the U-16 footballers who beat Buffers Alley in Bree last Sunday on a scoreline of 3-14 to 3-06.

BREE  YOUTH CLUB

There will be no youth club on Good Friday 22nd April or on Friday 29th April as the Junior members will travel to Taghmon for their Junior Disco.   Those attending the disco should meet in Bree at 7.15pm and the return time is 10.40pm approximately.  The cost is €8.  There will be youth club on Friday 6th May at the usual times.  On Friday 13th May the senior members will travel to Taghmon for their last disco of the club year.  All attending should meet in Bree at 8.15pm.  Bus will return at 12.40am approximately. The cost is €8. Friday 20th May is the last club night of the year and there will be a party for Junior members from 6.30pm until 8pm and for seniors from 8pm until 9.30pm.

BREE ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP OUTING

Bree Active Retirement Group have organised an outing on Wednesday April 20th to the Newbridge Silverware Visitor Centre and Museum, Kildare Village Outlet Shopping Centre and an evening meal in The Priory Restaurant, Kilcullen on the return journey.  The Bus for the outing will leave Bree Community Centre at 10 a.m. on Wednesday April 20th returning at 9.30 p.m.  The cost is €12 per person for Bree Active Retirement Group Members.  Non members are also welcome.  For more information and to book a seat please contact Kitty at 053 9247862.

BREE COMMUNITY CENTRE CHARITY AUCTION

Easter Monday a fundraising Charity Auction will be held in Bree Community Centre.  The Auction will take place at 3pm with viewing of goods from 2pm. Donations of items for auction will be accepted from 7pm to 8pm on Sat, 11am to 12am on Easter Sun and from 10am to 12 noon on Easter Mon.  Donations may include good quality household (including unwanted gifts), any garden or garage goods. (No used mattresses please). Contact 086-8275943, before Saturday, if collection of items is required.  ‘Slaney Quilters’ a group of local quilters, has donated a beautiful quilt for Auction with a €200 reserve on this item.  At 2pm, on Easter Mon there will be a Bric-a-Brac, Book and Cake Sale. Any item for these sales will be gratefully accepted at any of the above times.

CHERNOBYL AID IRELAND TABLE QUIZ

There will be a Fundraising Table Quiz and Draw in aid for Chernobyl Aid Ireland on Fri 29th Apr in Byrnes, Bree at 9.30 pm.  € 20 per Table and ticket for the draw are €2 per strip or 3 strips for €5. There are numerous prizes.   All support would be greatly appreciated.  Support would be greatly appreciated.

SPRING CLEAN

Bree Spring Clean will take place on the weekend of April 15th, 16th and 17th this year.  What is it? – it’s an anti-litter initiative to rally the community to take responsibility for our environment.   What you need – civic spirit, picking up papers, bottles, cans, sweet wrappers and litter.   Where to do it – anywhere in your locality where you’ve found yourself saying “isn’t that a real shame?  Wouldn’t this be a beautiful spot if it wasn’t for the rubbish lying around?  So come on, take the initiative and inspire your friends and neighbours to take pride and spruce up Bree.   There will be 13 pick up points sign posted through out Bree where you can leave bags of rubbish you have picked up.  All help and support would be greatly appreciated.
