Christmas Greetings from Fr. Murphy

An advertisement I saw recently used the phrase, “It is not what is under the Christmas tree that matters, but who is around it”.  The phrase stuck in my mind.  The Christmas tree may be the place for presents but our homes are the place for presence.  May ‘presence’ manifest love, peace and joy in every home in our community this Christmas as we celebrate the unique manifestation of God’s presence in the babe of Bethlehem.  I pray God’s blessings on all who are sick at home, in hospital or nursing home, and on all who live alone.  Festive greetings to the daughters and sons of the parish who form the Bree Diaspora either in Ireland or abroad.  To all who have travelled distances to be “at home in Bree” this Christmas I pray that your presence may be a real source of joy and blessing on your homes and to your families.  I offer sentiments of sympathy to all who have an empty place at their table this Christmas, especially for the first time – through illness, bereavement, separation and emigration.  Christmas is and always remains the feast of God’s presence – a presence that is never revoked or diminished because “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that is his as the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth” (Jn 1:14).   Happy Christmas to one and all and every good wish for 2012.

Christmas can be a difficult time for many people, for many different reasons. … bereavement, loss, illness, loneliness and financial stress, to mention a few. If you can do one thing differently this Christmas, then make it a change. In GROW we encourage and support change constantly. Our 12 Step Program for Recovery and Growth is open to anyone over 18 who is finding life difficult, whether it’s through depression, loneliness, stress or any other problem or illness which makes life difficult.  There are weekly support groups in Taghmon, Wexford, New Ross, Enniscorthy and Gorey. Some groups will take a break over Christmas, but maybe this is a time to look forward to the New Year with a plan for change.  For further information please call Maurene on 086 7706064 or call our Infoline during office hours on 1890 474 474.
