BREE/DAVIDSTOWN ATHLETICS FINALS

The Bree/Davidstown Community Games Athletic Finals take place in Bree on Wed, 25th May.   Reg is at 6pm to start at 6.30pm sharp beginning with U10 Hurdles followed by sprints for Preschool children to U16. Adm is €2 for all.   Spikes   only permitted in the U14, 15 & U16 ages.    Athletes must be underage from 1st Aug 2011 (eg) to compete U8, an athlete may not reach their 8th birthday before 1st Aug 2011. Events are as follows;  Boys & Girls Pre-school 40m, Boys & Girls U6 40m (U6 from 1st January 2011), Boys & Girls U8 60m & 80m, Boys & Girls U10 60m Hurdles, 100m & 200m, Boys & Girls U12 100m, 600m, Ball Throw, Long Puck (Boys only), Boys & Girls U13 900m Walk, Boys & Girls U14 80m Hurdles, 100m, 800m, Long Puck (Girls only), Long Jump, Shot Putt, Boys & Girls U16 100m, 1500m, Marathon, High Jump, Javelin (Girls only), Discus (Boys only).  All U8-16 medal winners compete in one individual event in the County Final. They must select their desired medalled event on Wed 25th as Co entries are due shortly afterwards. The County Final is in Craanford on Sat, 11th June at 10am. Training for the Co Finals take place in Bree every Monday & Wednesday evenings from 6.30-8pm.  Commiserations to the Girls U12 Soccer Team who were defeated 3-1 by Castlebridge/Crossabeg in the county final in Ferrycarrig Park recently

National Community Games Finals - Best wishes to the thirteen young people who will represent Bree / Davidstown and Co Wexford in the Community Games National Finals in Athlone next weekend. There include Ciara Scullion and Grainne Byrne in Art, Sophie McCabe and Annalise Crean in Cross Country, Kasey Doyle, Amy Long, Sophie McCabe, Moya Neary and Louise Butler in Irish Group Dancing, Antony Butler, Enda Minogue, Colm Parnell and Liam Rossitter in Handball, Caoimhe Doyle in Handwriting and Aoife Cloke Rochford in Music.

ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY OF IRELAND

Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland (Wexford Branch) open garden on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd May at Barmoney (courtesy of the Egan Family) from 11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. each day.  Also craft exhibition, raffle, cake stall and teas.  Donations will remain in Wexford’s Alzheimer’s area.  Further information or to help out please call Mary 087-3539468.

BREE AC NEWS

Best wishes to the twelve relay teams competing in the Leinster Championships this Sun in Greystones. Best wishes also to Katie Mai McCabe, John Kehoe and Daire Cloke Rochford who compete on U11 Girls and Boy’s Intercounty Relay Teams in Navan next weekend.  Also best wishes to all taking part in the Leinster Schools competitions in Santry on Saturday.  Athletics Training continues every Monday & Wednesday evening at 6.30pm.  New members always welcome.

GALBALLY - TRACTOR & VINTAGE RUN

The annual tractor and vintage run in Galbally takes place on the 29th May. Reg begins at the community centre at 11.30 and the event gets under way at 1.00pm. The route for this years run includes Tomfarney, Sparrowsland, Macmine, Corlican, Lambstown. Finnogue, Barmoney and Galbally. The event has been very successful thanks to support from the parish and from vintage groups from across the county. Refreshments will be served in the community hall following the event

U12 CUP FINAL

Congratulations to the girls from Bree Utd on winning the U12 Cup on Sun last against Shelbourne. The only goal of the game was scored by Sophie McCabe.  The team was Aoife Cloke-Rochford(captain) , Brid Byrne, Aideen Kane, Kim Horan, Kasey Doyle, Louise Butler, Sophie McCabe, Aoife Codd, Niamh Sinnott and Kathlyn Furlong. The managers Lar Rochford and Jane Power would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to the girls and their families for their dedication and support.

BALLYHOGUE GAA CLUB NEWS

Footballers Win - Well done to the Intermediate footballers who continued their winning start to the championship with a win over Clonard in Wexford Park on a score of 1-10 to

1-4. The next outing will be in the League against St. James on Monday May 30th in Bree.

Lotto  - There was no winner of the Lotto this week but Bernie Byrne, Stephanie Murphy and Breda O' Sullivan all matched three to win. Next draw on June 1st  in Galbally.

Good Luck  - Best of luck to Seán O Neill who is a member of the Wexford Senior Football team who face Offaly on Sat 28th May in Tullamore. Discounted tickets are available to the game for those who wish to make a group/club purchase - a minimum of 15 people ordering through the club  ensures large savings. Please contact Liam Leacy by Monday as the order has to go to Leinster G.A.A. by Tuesday.

Underage - U-14 footballers had a good win on Thurs against district rivals Duffry Rovers and now face Cloughbawn next Thurs in Bree at 7.30. U-16 hurlers were unlucky against Horeswood in their most recent game, losing out by 2 points. Their next game is against Geraldine O' Hanrahans in New Ross on Mon.

BREE YOUTH CLUB NEWS

The club year 2010/11 is now over.  We wish our members who are sitting exams this summer the very best of luck. The club will resume again in September 2011.  Details of the registration night will be in these notes.

Summer Trips

We plan to take senior members to Dunmore East Adventure Centre on Sat 9th July for a day of multi activities which will include Kayaking, Rock Jumping, Pedal Boats, Power Boat Ride, Climbing Wall and Archery.  The trip costs €38 but Bree Youth Club will subsidise the cost bringing the charge per member to €25. The second trip is for our junior members to visit Clara Lara Funpark in Co. Wicklow on Saturday 16th July.  Clara Lara offers a variety of water based attractions in addition to go karts, mini golf, tarzan ropes and more.   The cost is €18 per person but again, Bree Youth Club will subsidise the cost and can offer the trip for €12 per member.  The transport costs for both trips will be covered by the club.  In order to confirm the trips the club must pay a deposit and therefore we ask that you text the club mobile as soon as possible – 0857751175 – with your child’s name followed by “Dunmore” for the senior trip or “Clara Lara” for the junior trip

IRISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to all dancers who participated in the Irish dance Championships in City West. The Wexford Academy took home a total 106 medals in their solo dances with first places going to Emma Murphy Jnr, Zara Kelly, Stacey Breen, Erin Fortune, Lucy Forte, Conor Long, Sauna Dunne, Claire Doyle, Angela Murphy, Louise Butler, and Kasey Doyle. The Class did exceptionally well in the 2,3 & 4 hands who  won 55 medals and 21 teams placed!! Congratulations to Conor Long & Shauna Dunne and Kasey Doyle & Louise Butler who won 2 Hands.  The class went on to claim 17 placings in the Awards and 7 placings in the Championships, winning the Soisear Ceili Crystal. Congratulations to the Award winners Emma Murphy, Sinead Doyle and Angela Murphy & to the following who were placed in their awards  Mairead Crean, Shannon Wall, Niamh O’Neill, Meadhbh O’Brien, Darren Long, Erin Fortune, Shauna Dunne, Leah Curran, Sadhbh Kirwan, Kate Byrne, Cait Doyle, Johanna Wickham, Claire Doyle, Marie Doyle & Aine Doyl.e.  Louise Butler was deemed Irish Open U/11 Champion while the following were placed in their championships  Kasey Doyle, Alysha Murphy, Dawn O’Rourke, Gillian Byrne, Ciara Breen & Sinead Doyle. 3 Ceili teams were also placed 2nd, 4th and 7th.  GREENHOMES – Just a reminder that the tidy towns entry for 2011 has now gone in.  The adjudicators will judge the village and approach roads through the months of June, July and August.  Our 2011 application relies on the support of the community to take pride in their local environment and to take action against litter and waste.  Bree Tidy Towns are registered with the “Green Home Scheme” (An Tasice).  Please help us increase our waste minimisation score by joining the programme.  To join log onto www.greenhome.ie, click on join in and select Bree Community Tidy Towns in the register now section.   The adjudicators will take note of the number of households who register and award points to the Bree entry accordingly.  Good for the environment and pride in your community.___________________________________________

GALBALLY COMMUNITY PLAYSCHOOL

Galbally Community Playschool is now taking enrolments for Sept 2011.
