FERNS YOUTH
FESTIVAL AT OUR LADYS ISLAND
A special youth pilgrimage
beginning with Mass at 7.00 p.m. on Saturday
29th August, and followed by a procession around the Island carrying the World Youth Day
Cross. This will be followed by a BBQ and a
concert with music provided by ELATION
which is a young Christian rock band. SOCCER
TRAINING
Under
10 Soccer Training starting Wednesday 26th August at
7.30 p.m. in Macmine BREE CEP LTD APPLICATIONS FOR VACANCIES
Applications are now being taken for the proposed Bree
Community Employment Project 2009/10 due to commence in October 2009. Positions available include General Maintenance
Workers, Childcare Workers, Community Visitation Workers, Clerical Workers, Sports Centre
and Community Centre Caretakers. The Project
covers the areas of Bree, Galbally, Ballyhogue and Glynn.
Application forms are available from Bree Parish Office. Important Garda vetting is required to
participate on this programme. You will be
required to complete a Garda vetting form giving permission for information to be obtained
from the Garda Central Vetting Unit. All
successful applicants must comply with FAS eligibility criteria.
EDERMINE ROWING CLUB
The All Ireland Coastal Rowing
Championships take place in Waterville, Co. Kerry this weekend, August 22nd and 23rd. Best
wishes to all involved. Training takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening at
7.30 p.m. ANNUAL
PIONEER PILGRIMAGE
The
Annual Pioneer Pilgrimage to Our Ladys Island takes place on Sunday 30th
August. Mass will be at 3.00 p.m. Everybody
welcome to attend. SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER REGISTRATION
Registering for
School Boys Soccer for U10, U12, U14, and U16s will take place in Bree Community
Centre on Monday 31st August at 7.30 p.m. If
this is your first time to register please bring a Birth Certificate. The fee for registering is 20 per child and
under 10s must be 9 by 31st December 2009. CAMOGIE TRAINING
Camogie Training for U12s takes place in Ballyhogue GAA
grounds on Tuesday evenings from 6.30 to 7,15pm. All girls in this age group are welcome
to participate. BREE ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP
The
Annual outing to Our Ladys Island will take place on Friday 28th August leaving Bree
Community Centre at 1.00 p.m. approx and will include a meal out, all most welcome. FUNDRAISING CABARET - YOUTHS SOCCER
Bree
Soccer Club is starting up a new Youths Team this year. The trainer will be Ronan Murphy. New members are welcome. We would appreciate your support at our
fundraising cabaret on 29th August in Byrnes Lounge, Bree. Tickets are on sale for 5. Music by: On the Run. BREE COMMUNITY CENTRE REFURBISHMENT
Refurbishment
work on Bree Community Centre began last week with the installation of new windows. Thanks
to Power Plant for their assistance. Work on the new extension is due to begin this week
and should be completed by February. The contact for this phase of the Refurbishment has
been awarded to OCM. Many thanks to all who supported the Bree Fair Day and Householders
Draw in aid of Bree Community Centre which together raised almost 7500. Winners of
the Householders Draw were Joe Doyle, Monamolin (WFC Oil Voucher), Joe & Molly OLeary,
Borrmount and Emma Nolan, Carrigunane (200 and 100 respectively both sponsored
by Nitrofert) and Maria Byrne, Curraghnaboola (Hamper). The next fundraiser will be a
Fashion Show in the Riverside Park Hotel, which take places on Wednesday, 4th November. COMMUNITY GAMES NATIONAL FINALS
Bree
and Davidstown parishes were represented with great success in the Girls Soccer, Variety
and Skittles at the National Community Games Finals in Athlone last weekend. The U15
soccer team of Shona Spratt Murphy, Kate Murphy, Chloe Morrissey, Rachel Condon, Aoife
Hegarty, Niamh Rochford, Annie Stafford, Ciara McKelvie, Hannah Sullivan, Ciara Howe and
Dervla McCabe with coach Betty Kelly won the National Silver medals with a win 2-0 over
Roscommon in the semifinal and a 1-0 defeat to Donegal in the Final. Ciara McKelvie scored
both of the Bree /Davidstown goals. The Variety Team of Shauna Buckley, Niamh Curran, Cait
Doyle, Shannon Somers, Joanne Wickham, Sadhbh Kirwan, Clodagh Coughlan, Aoife Doyle,
Shauna Dunne, Sean Hogan, Cathal Byrne, Mark McKelvie, Micheal Long and Shane Jordan with
Producer Sinead Fortune finished with National Bronze medals behind Kildare and Monaghan
and the Skittles Team of Cormac Byrne, Joseph Byrne, Conor Byrne, Daragh Byrne, Enda
Minogue, Shane Doyle and Niall Jones with David Minogue as manager won fourth place
medallions after losing 215- 227 to Roscommon in the semifinal and losing 177-271 to
Limerick in the play-off. Other team managers for the weekend were Ann Howe, Catherine
Jordan, Roisin McCarthy, Kevin Ring and Jim Doyle. Best wishes to the twenty-eight
athletes, which compete in the National Community Games Athletics Finals in Athlone this
weekend. BREE UNITED LADIES SOCCER
Congratulations
to Bree/ Davidstown Community Games U15
team who were runners up in The All-Ireland Community Games Finals in Athlone last
weekend. Registration night for the 09-10
season for U10, U12, U14 and U16s will take place in Bree Community Centre on
Tuesday 25th August from 6.30 to 7.30 p.m. please bring along a parent. CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations
to the Ballyhogue U10 Football Team who were victorious in the A Final of the Kent
Stainless Steel Football Final, on Wednesday evening last.
They beat the Starlights on a score-line of 6-8 to 4-7 well done
to all involved.
