Ireland's New Marine Research Vessel, in Rooslare Europort, 18-11-1999

"Celtic Voyager" is Ireland's first ever custom-built multi-purpose marine Research Vessel, the "Celtic Voyager", was officially launched on Monday 15th September 1997, for the Marine and Natural Resources, at Sir John Rogersons Quay in Dublin. The Celtic Voyager, is a 31.4 metre vessel, this vessel replaced the RV Lough Beltra.
The cost of the vessel was £1.75 million, 75% of which was made available through the European Regional Development Fund, with the remaining 25% coming from the State.
The Vessel is managed and owned by the Marine Institute, it will be used for research and development of Ireland`s Marine Resources.
The "Celtic Voyager" will facilitate fisheries and oceanographic surveys, mineral resource exploration, pollution monitoring and underwater exploration. The vessel will also be used for training Marine Scientists.
