East Cork U16 Hurling Championship

Bride Rovers 2-08      Killeagh/St.Itas 2-09

On August 30th we played a combination of Killeagh and St.Ita's in the semi-final of the hurling championship in Cloyne.  Killeagh/Ita's opened the scoring in the third minute with a point from play.  Vincent O'Keeffe notched up our first score with a well -taken point, 40 meters out on the left hand side of
the pitch.
Killeagh/Ita's added a goal before Stephen Walsh converted a penalty after being brought down inside the lange parallegram.  The score read 1-1 each after ten minutes of play.  Killeagh followed with three points before Stephen Walsh scored from a 40 meter free.  Stephen Quinn opened his scoring with a point from
play.  Killeagh again hit the target with 2 points to leave the score 1-6 to 1-3 in favour of Killeagh/Ita's at the break.
We got a very bad start to the second half with our opponent's scoring1-2 within two minutes to leave us trailing by seven points.  Our lads fought back well with three points in the 11th minute Stephen Walsh free, 13th minute another Stephen free from 70 meters and a point from play by Vinnie O'Keeffe.  Killeagh
scored a point to leave the score line 2-8 to 1-6.  With two minutes of normal time remaining we continued to defend well and attach the Killeagh/Ita's defence on a regular basis.  The pressure resulted in a Padraig O'Keeffe goal followed by two brilliant points by Philip Butler to draw level in the 29th minute.
Killeagh/Ita's from the puck out brought the ball up the field and were awarded a 20 meter free which they converted to leave the score at 2-9 to 2-8 at the final whistle.

This was a brave and determined performance from our team and without doubt deserved to draw.  We wish Killeagh/Ita's the best of luck in the final.

Our performers on the night were Michael Kearney at full back who caught a number of high balls, Liam Forde was a tower of strength at center- back, Stephen Walsh displayed wonderful skill whilst Padraig O'Keeffe took his goal well.
