East Cork Junior 'A' Hurling Championship:

Bride Rovers 0-07      Russell Rovers 0-10

On Friday Night week last June 25th, our Junior A Hurlers were defeated by Russell Rovers in the opening round of the Junior A Hurling Championship.

Pat Walsh  opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a point for the Rovers. Russell Rovers had their first score from a pointed free by Joseph Walsh in the 7th minute. The same player put Russell Rovers ahead minutes later but a Barry Hazelwood free has the sides level for a second time. Russell Rovers preceded to score four points without reply to lead 0-6 to 0-2, a point from Trevor Maloney in the 24th minute reduced the deficit before another pointed free from Joseph Walsh had Russell Rovers leading 0-7 to 0-3 at half-time.

Playing with the wind in the second half, the Rovers started to create a lot of chances & by the 19th minute had drawn level, 0-7 each, with the Rovers points coming from Barry Hazelwood (0-3) & Shane Murphy. The Rovers defence were playing well with George Johnson impressive in goals as were Brendan O'Driscoll & Pat Walsh.

Strangely though this was to be the last of the Rovers scoring, having kept Russell Rovers scoreless for the first 20 minutes of the second half, they in turn kept Bride Rovers scoreless for the remainder of the game. Final Score was 0-07 to 0-10. The Junior Hurlers will now play Killeagh in the losers group.
