Historic Weekend for Club
A club meeting, two matches, Dinner Dance and a County Final, certainly a
packed
few days last weekend both on and off the field.
Dinner Dance
The Club’s Victory Dinner Dance was held in Garryvoe Hotel on Saturday night
last. An attendance of 230 enjoyed a fantastic night of celebrations. Club
Chairman, Liam Barry, got the proceedings underway by welcoming all present.
Our
guest speakers were Pierce Murphy, Treasurer of the Cork Co. Board, Gerard
Lane,
Chairman of the East Cork Board and Fr. O’Donnell P.P. 2004 saw the club
capture
the Munster Club Intermediate Hurling Championship title, the East Cork
Junior
Football Championship, Minor Football League, East Cork and County titles in
Scór and also saw three All Ireland Hurling medals come to the parish. In a
wide
ranging address, Pierce Murphy covered all spheres of the clubs activities
in
2004, Bride Rovers first year at Senior level. He complimented Brian Murphy,
Brendan Walsh, Barry Johnson and Liam Barry, all of whom helped bring All
Ireland glory to Cork at Senior and Intermediate level. Gerard Lane spoke of
the
remarkable progress the club has made in just over 10 years – from Junior
‘B’ to
Senior Level. Fr O’Donnell complimented the club on the way it brought a
great
sense of community spirit to the parish. Liam Barry thanked everyone for
their
efforts in 2004 and asked for full cooperation from all members and players
in
2005. He said that in all our joy and celebrations we should remember the
Riordan and Kelleher families in their tragic bereavements. Pierce Murphy
then
presented the medals to the players. Special presentations were made to the
football selectors Brendan O’Driscoll, Pat McHugh and John Murphy and team
trainer Ciaran Hynes as well as a special presentation to mark Brian
Murphy’s
achievement in winning the Young Hurler of the Year award. The final
presentation was to outgoing chairman, Tom Mulcahy, who as a player and club
officer has given over 25 years outstanding service to the club.
There was a warm welcome at the Dinner for Charlie Hasson and his wife.
Charlie
is from the St Mary’s GAA Club in Rasharkin, Co. Antrim. St Marys were our
guests at Feile a few years ago and Charlie has kept in contact with the
club
ever since. He presented a lovely St Mary’s framed crest to Liam Barry.
After
the formalities were over Wallstreet provided the entertainment for the
night
followed by a Disco.
