2004 BRIDE ROVERS GAA CLUB AGM

The Club AGM was held in the clubroom at Pairc Na Bride, Rathcormac on Wednesday
night last December 15th with a large crowd in attendance. Outgoing Chairman Tom
Mulcahy welcomed everyone including Fr. N. O’Donnell P.P. and our new curate Fr.
Joe Rohan.
Secretary Anne Marie Maher-Barry read the minutes of last years AGM and then
gave her detailed report for the past season of 2004. On the playing field she
highlighted the fact that Bride Rovers took part in the Cork County Senior
Hurling Competition for the first time. Early in the season we captured the
Munster Intermediate Club Championship defeating Abbeyside (Waterford) and
Kilruane McDonaghs of Tipperary in the final. In the T.S.B. Cork Senior Hurling
championship we were defeated by eventual County Champions Na Piarsaigh by two
points, 1-12 to 2-7. In round two we were defeated by Midleton on a scoreline of
1-11 to 0-12. The team gave great performances in these games. The Senior
hurling team qualified for the quarter final of the League where they were
defeated by Killeagh by 2-10 to 1-10. At last we made the breakthrough on the
football front when Terry Broderick led us to our first ever East Cork Junior
Football championship title. The team defeated Glanmire, Midleton, St.
Catherine’s, Erins Own and Fr. O’Neills. It was a historic year for the club on
the Inter County scene. Brendan Walsh captained the Cork Intermediate Hurling
team to Munster and All Ireland glory with Barry Johnson also collecting winners
medals. Brian Murphy was selected on the Cork Senior team and starred during the
year for Cork as they captured the All Ireland Senior Hurling title. Brian
rounded off a memorable year when he was selected as the Young Hurler of the
Year. Anne Marie’s comprehensive report dealt in detail with every facet of the
club activities for 2004. Her report was acclaimed with a round of applause.
The treasurer Mary McHugh then presented the Club account for the year. This report
was an amazing document which outlined all the income and expenditure for 2004.
With the turnover of the club now well in excess of €100,000 per annum one can
easily understand the task of preparing the financial statement. Several items
such as medical costs and the cost of match equipment were cause for much
concern and are to be looked at by the incoming Executive.
Chairman Tom Mulcahy then addressed the meeting. He spoke in glowing terms of the
efforts of theSenior hurlers and Junior footballers in 2004. He also spoke of our
achievements at Inter County level during the year culminating in the winning of
2 Munster and 3 All Ireland medals by club players. Tom recalled the developments
during the last three years in terms of the clubroom, referees room and new toilets
and the fact that we have a second pitch leased for the next 5 years. He appealed
for more club members to help with the workload in running the club in the next
year.
