Junior Football League Division 1
Sat. 5th April 2003

 BRIDE ROVERS 2-09   -   CLOYNE 0-12

Bride Rovers Junior Footballers travelled to Cloyne for their second game in the Noel Mackey sponsored Junior Football League Division 1 competition. Having already being defeated by Carrignavar & received a walkover from Aghada this game was vitally important as preparation for the Junior A Football Championship which is fixed presently for Sat. 12th April in Ballynoe V Midleton.
Cloyne opened the scoring with a pointed free but Sean Ryan equalised minutes later with a well taken point. Cloyne & the Rovers swapped 2 more points each with the Rovers points coming from Terry Broderick & Sean Ryan.
The Rovers were now beginning to get on top in midfield where Donal Ryan & Aidan Collins were impressive. Following a great move involving many players, Donal Ryan won a great ball in the Cloyne square & passed to the in rushing corner back, Pat Barry, who duly rifled the ball to the net.
With the Rovers growing in confidence they extended their lead with further points from Terry Broderick, Sean Ryan & a pointed free from Hugh Kelleher. Cloyne attacked once more and scored three points without reply.
In the closing minutes of the first half, Sean Ryan won possession from a poor Cloyne kickout & fed Hugh Kelleher who in turn passed to Colm O'Keeffe. Colm made no mistake shooting the ball to the net passed a helpless Cloyne Goalie. Half time & the Rovers were leading 2-06 to 0-06.
In the second half we knew Cloyne would throw everything at us but our full back line of Brendan O'Driscoll, Pat Walsh & Pat Barry stood firm. In the half-back line, Trevor Moloney, Michael Carey & Brendan Walsh were containing the Cloyne forwards.
However Cloyne pressure finally reaped rewards & they reduced our lead to three points. The Rovers responded well with points from the in-form Terry Broderick (2) & Hugh Kelleher. Cloyne agained attacked & scored three more points without reply. With minutes remaining, the Rovers goal was underseige but Richie Cahill in the Rovers goal was unbeatable & the Rovers held out for a 3 point victory.
