| Bride Rovers Intermediate Hurlers picked up their second
win in the league with a four point win over St.Finbarrs which was played
in Togher. It was a splendid evening for a hurling match.
St.Finbarrs opened the scoring with a point from Brian Cunningham following a long puck out from Sean Barry in the Barrs Goals. The Rovers levelled moments later with a fine point from Jerome O'Driscoll. Barry Hazelwood put the Rovers in front with a pointed free & this was followed shortly by a great goal from Jerome, who fielded a high ball into the square before shooting an unstoppable shot to the Barrs net. Brian Cunningham added two more points for the Barrs, one from a free, before Jerome again struck with a well taken point to leave the score 1-3 to 0-3 in favour of the Rovers. A fine point from a sideline by Barrs wing back, Fergal Murray reduced our lead but this was extended shortly afterwards with points from the ever dangerous Sean Ryan & Barry Hazelwood. Moments later Barry Murphy struck over a superb score from all of 90 yards. Again Brian Cunningham was unerring from two frees & this was followed by a long range free by the Barrs goalie. However on the stroke of half-time a lond delivery into the square by Donal Ryan was doubled on by Sean Ryan to score a fine goal to leave the half-time score; Bride Rovers 2-05, St.Finbarrs 0-07. The Bride Rovers defence were playing well & contained much of the St.Finbarrs threat, in midfield Billy O'Shea was causing some problems before he had to leave the field injured. Donal Ryan was winning some very good ball & was ably assisted by Mike Hogan. The Rovers started the second half well with points from Jerome O'Driscoll & a brace from Barry Hazelwood who had now moved out to the forty. Brian Cunningham was keeping the Barrs in touch with some well taken frees. Barry Hazelwood again added to the Rovers tally & with the Rovers enjoying an eight point lead with 20 minutes to go, the game turned with two quick goals from the Barrs, one from a penalty by Brian Cunningham. The Rovers responded well with points from Terry Broderick, Sean Ryan, Jerome O'Driscoll & two pointed frees by Barry Hazelwood. Again Brian Cunningham pointed a brace of frees before Jerome O'Driscoll & Barry Hazelwood pointed to secure a second Rovers win.
