 BRIDE ROVERS 2-07   -   YOUGHAL 1-12
Bride Rovers travelled to Copperalley, Youghal on Sunday last, 16th March for their opening round of the Irish Examiner sponsored Intermediate Hurling League. The pitch was in ideal condition with a strong wind directly down the field.
Referee John D.Cotter got proceeding underway & with Youghal playing with the strong wind in the opening half, it was not long before they opened their account with a long range free scored by the Youghal Centre-Back, Damien Ring. Bride Rovers were quick to reply & following a good move involving Nevin O'Regan, who was playing his first competitive game for Bride Rovers since transferring from Fermoy, the ball eventually found its way to Terry Broderick who pointed from 50 yards.
Youghal got on top after this & added to their tally with five successive points (4 from frees) to leave the the score 0-6 to 0-1. A further three points by Brendan Walsh saw the Rovers reduce Youghals lead to three points. Eoin Coleman added two more points for Youghal before the break to leave the score at half-time: Bride Rovers 0-04 - Youghal 0-08.
With Barry Hazelwood lining out in goals for the Rovers due to the absense of our regular Goalkeepers, Denis Fitzgerald & Colm O'Keeffe, being on duty with St.Colmans, he still contributed to the scoreline. Shortly after half-time, Barry scored a goal from a long-range free & added a further point later in the half. After scoring the goal to reduct the lead to the minimum we allowed Youghal to open up a 4 point lead again after conceding an easy goal.
Team Captain, Sean Ryan scored another goal for the Rovers which was a real opportunist goal but again when we seemingly had control of the game we let it slip & conceded a few frees which Eoin Coleman made no mistake with. Pat Cotter after being introduced as a sub added a further two points from frees to complete the Rovers scoring.
