Little Chick

Amy Hest

How Little Chick longs for her carrot to grow tall, for her kite to fly high, to be able to reach up and take her star from the sky. But her carrot is small, her kite bobs along on the ground and she can't stretch up far enough to touch her star. Sometimes things just don't turn out quite the way you want them to.
3 stories featuring the endearing character Little Chick. From the creators of 'Kiss Goodnight, Sam'.
The Troll

Julia Donaldson

The Troll longs for a juicy goat to eat - but he's stuck with boring old fish for supper. Bother! Meanwhile, Hank Chief and his pirate crew love fish, but without a decent recipe their slimy, soggy dinner is even worse. If only they could find their buried treasure and pay for a ship's cook ...but it seems they've sailed to the wrong island.
The leading picture book writer Julia Donaldson is here paired with illustrator David Roberts - the partnership which also brought us the hilarious 'Tyrannosaurus Drip'.

It's a Dog's Life

Michael Morpurgo

Lula always likes me to go with her to the end of the lane. She loves a bit of a cuddle and a lick or two before the school bus comes. 'Oh Russ', she whispers.
'A horse. It's all I want for my birthday.' And I'm thinking - 'Scuse me, but what's so great about a horse? Isn't a dog good enough.' Michael's story is an energetic romp through a dog's busy day on a farm. Russ, the sheepdog, herds sheep and cows and plots against Tigger, the farm cat.
He covers Lula, his master's daughter, with lots of slobbery licks but when she gets a special birthday present, he worries that she might love it more than him...
Alice in Wonderland

Emma Chichester Clark

Based on the original story by Lewis Carroll, this is a beautifully illustrated retelling.
Milo Armadillo

Jan Fearnley

All Tallulah wants for her birthday is a pink fluffy rabbit, but Gran knits her something very different: a pink, fluffy armadillo.  Can Tallulah learn to lover her pink fluffy armadillo just the way he is?
The Very Cranky Bear

Nick Bland

In the Jingle, jangle jungle, four friends encounter a very cranky bear. Moose, Lion and Zebra all think they know how to cheer him up, but it's plain, boring Sheep who has the answer. This is a hilarious picture book, with the over-riding message being: Don't underestimate the quiet ones! Sometime a little thought is all you need to solve a problem instead of rushing to immediate action.
Smelly Peter, the Great Pea Eater

Steve Smallman

Young Peter Pod, was a little bit odd: he ate nothing but peas, fresh or tinned, for breakfast and brunch, for dinner and lunch, though he always had terrible wind! Peter is different. He only ever eats peas and they make him green and rather smelly! Then one day he is picked up by a spaceship full of aliens, who whisk him away to make him their king.
Iggy Peck Architect

Andrea Beaty

Iggy Peck has been building fabulous creations since he was two. His parents are proud of their son, though sometimes surprised by some of Iggy's more inventive creations (like the tower he built out of used diapers). When a new second grade teacher declares her dislike of architecture, Iggy faces a challenge.

He loves building too much to give it up! With Andrea Beaty's irresistible rhyming text and David Roberts' unique and stylish illustration, this book will charm creative kids everywhere.
