Rankings

The main aims of the introduction of a ranking points system are:

We have taken into account, on one side, principles applied by international tennis associations and countries with a long successful history, and on the other the particular circumstances of Irish Tournaments.

One of the features of the new ranking system is the introduction of qualifying rounds. Higher ranked players are accepted directly into the main draw and the rest into a qualifying draw. Matches in first qualifying rounds are expected to be closer and more enjoyable for both sides.

It will take a few months before the rankings are reliable. We would advise the use of a combination of the current ranking and the end of year 2006 ranking when deciding seeds and direct acceptance into main draws during the first half of this year.

We will be publishing a list with Tournament Grades within 4 weeks. Ranking Lists will be updated every 2 weeks.

The plan will be reviewed at the end of the season and adjusted if required.

As all new plans, it is likely to encounter some problems, particularly at the beginning. We are planning a Questions & Answers section where we will try to deal with them as they arise. We will appreciate your patience and feed-back.
