CONVICTED murderer, Catherine Nevin, is set to appeal against her life sentence for the murder of her husband, Thomas Nevin.
February 11th is the date fixed for the appeal, which was set by the Court of Criminal Appeal on Wednesday. She has been granted free legal aid by the State to pursue the proceedings.
Catherine Nevin was jailed for life in April 2000 when she was found guilty of murder and soliciting three men to murder her husband on various dates before his fatal shooting at Jack White's Inn near Brittas Bay on March 19th 1996.
Civil proceedings are also pending. Mr Nevin's family previously got a High Court order freezing distribution of his estate. Thomas and Catherine Nevin owned Jack White's Inn jointly. Catherine Nevin sold the premises in November 1997 for £620,000.
In 1998 Thomas Nevin's mother, the late Nora Nevin, Tynagh, Loughrea, County Galway, brought proceedings claiming an interest in the pub. Several declarations were sought including one that Catherine Nevin was not entitled to any share of the pub.
