Brittas Bay Community Development Group - Home Page Affiliated to Wicklow Communities Networking WCN |
Brittas Bay is a peninsula about 4 miles long on the East Coast of County Wicklow. It is a rural community, which has no real centre of population. The Brittas Bay Community Development Group was constituted on 1st December 2001 at a public meeting to elect a steering committee to research and formulate good foundation stones, which the Group could build on.
Aims and Objectives
To support local groups and residents in community matters.
To create an open forum for local people to express their views and opinions.
To create a means of communication throughout the community.
To sustain, enhance and preserve the natural environment.
To encourage and attract sustainable employment to the area.
To promote cultural activities.
To encourage and monitor tourism in a fashion which is not detrimental to the environment.
To adopt an impartial approach and take into account all political and religious views.
To provide opportunity and a safe environment for young people.
To promote a caring approach towards the elderly, disabled and isolated individuals.
To act as a co-ordination body
The Group in its short life has come a long way. Among the initiatives to date have been a community newsletter, and a competition which included all the Primary Schools of the area to design a logo for the Group. The publication of a Summer programme of events is also envisaged. A new improved tourist brochure is also being developed with the Irish Tourist Board and Wicklow County Council. We are also pursuing the improvement of signs to and from the Bay, and at the moment we are putting together a prescription delivery service for our older and less mobile residents. The Group believes a community audit is a priority and the next newsletter will be used to welcome suggestions of what this should include.
