PAUL VAN DYK Paul van Dyk is one of the very few German musicians who almost needs no introduction at all. Paul van Dyk the name stands for itself! Paul was born in Eisenhüttenstadt, the Easternpart of Germany, the former GDR. History took him to Berlin to the time of the first House- and Techno parties. Paul was captivated by the fresh sounds and electrifying atmosphere of the city's new and exciting clubscene, and started dj-ing in 1991. The promoter of 'Dubmission-Parties' recognized him and he got his first DJ job at 'Turbine,' an up and coming club at the time. His DJ debut was so brilliant that Paul rapidly played himself into the hearts of the spoilt Berlin Club Scene. The music Paul played was his very own. His mixing style and the positive Party atmosphere he created got him bookings in all the best clubs in Berlin. Paul has his very own method of getting the crowd on the dancefloor to dance, scream, dream and fly away... From then on Berlin couldn't do without Paul van Dyk. His first release was 'Visions of Shiva' in 1992 on MFS. This was a project realised by the efforts of Cosmic Baby and Paul van Dyk. Paul has earned great respect as a remixer for projects like Humate, New Order, Dance 2 Trance, Sven Väth, Age of Love, Amen and Sunday Club... and with his own productions he has made himself unforgetable. The success in his musical carreer seems it was meant to be, with everything running as smooth as possible for him. As a DJ, Paul has rapidly gained a large fan base in Europe and his respected status has taken him to almost every important club in the world. His DJ schedule looks like the index of an atlas: New York, Orlando, Atlanta, London, Paris, Praha, Sidney, Roma, Singapore... His homebase was E-Werk in Berlin, where he did a monthly party with guests such as Sasha, Carl Cox, John Digweed, Darren Emerson, Nick Warren, Francesco Farfa... In 1996 when Paul van Dyk did his German Tour to promote his "Seven Ways" album, the reactions were massive and were followed by national and international radio interviews and DJ-Sets, a feature on MTV and Deutsche Welle/NTV, as well as features and interviews. The reaction in the English press was fantastic. Seven Ways was tipped No. 1 in DJ magazine, normally reserved for English / American artists. In Germany "Seven Ways" hit the Media Control Charts and reached of No. 6 in the Saturn Sales Charts! The singles "Beautiful Place" "Forbidden Fruit" and "Words", with remixes by well-respected produceres like Salt Tank, BT, Quattara or Curve carved out a success with places in the German Dance Charts and the English Sales Charts. In 1998 the reader´s of the Irish Bassline magazin voted Paul van Dyk as best international DJ and Paul van Dyk was voted 6th in the annual english DJ Magazine´s DJ´s Top 100 ! Paul himself would describe his own style as electronic dance music, to avoid catagories and to be open-minded for all other kinds of music influences.
