December 5th, 1998
Eddies House, Ireland

Surely one of the calmest days in South Coast history, so we had to satisfy ourselves with buying a set of crockery for the new house.

December 12th, 1998
Eddies House, Ireland

This was like two weeks ago revisited - a great swell thwarted by poor timing and a growing wind. A few early rides out at the point gave way to being thrown around in the chop. To cap it all we got caught out in the mother of all hailstorms. The surfers lounge was even overlooked afterwards in favour of a Polos Breakfast. Maybe next week.

December 19th, 1998
Inchydoney, Ireland

Foul weather ensured that we were the only two out, and we were spoilt with a great 8 foot swell on glassy water. My touch betrayed me on the day while Eddie made the best of the conditions, or in his own words:
"Twomey didn't fancy the look of the 20 foot wall of water coming for him, roaring like an express train passing in the night. He was incredulous to see Eddie trying to make the wave thinking he's too deep, he'll never do it. Just when it looked like he was heading for the wipeout of his life, Vaughan using all of his fabled control rose majestically from his board, shot straight down the face of the wave and executed a perfect bottom turn. He continued to scribe a series of breathtaking arc's across the moving barrel of water, concentration etched on his face, pausing only to give Twomey a salutary wave and executed the perfect ride. Twomey was left thinking 'Man that was heavy...'"

We won't hear the end of this for an age.

The Cavalier pulls up at the 'doney. Note the new surf shower on the right.
