Surf Reports.

June 3nd, 2000
Castlefreke, West Cork

After a years abscense, the south coast surf report is back. So far this year has been pretty good, with Castlefreke in particular throwing up a few great days over the Spring.

Today we headed down with the boards strapped to the roof of the Rookies Golf, knowing that the conditions would send some waves our way. A low front in the Bay of Biscay and no wind meant the 'freke had to be up to something on low tide. How right we were. Unfortunately, every other surfer for 100 miles had worked out the same thing so the east end of the beach was packed. The less popular, slightly smaller west end was empty, so in we went. The waves were regular as clockwork, averaging about four feet. The glassy water made for some great rides with a great forehand and backhand break.

As the tide came in the swell died a little, allowing Eddie to shimmy back to the car and get his Underwater camera for a few snaps. Have a look for yourselves below.

Afterwards we treated ourselves to some of the finest apple tart I've tasted in a while in the friendly if inefficient beachside cafe.
