Spike's is back to his, nearly normal, self. Bar the crazy rants of course. I was not a big fan of his choice of clothing in this episode. The royal blue shirt was awfully loud and gave the hint of campness due to it barely not being a midriff revealing top. Its the kind of top that would look very unfashionable and cringe-worthy in a couple of years. Maybe I am making too much of a big dealio out of this top...
It is still very easy to notice that something is really missing in the scoobies' lives. They are no longer as together as they were say in Season Three. It's kinda sad. Buffy has had no good relationship to bring home since Reily, who of course up and left, then returned to be married to a really bad acted woman, worst episode ever. Xander is just there at the moment. I feel sorry for him, his role in Season Six weas mainly to be nagged and nagged and nagged by Anya about the wedding. His character always has so much potential, so many the writers will pick up on this and make him the once briliant person he was.
Willow will have some mess to clean up once she returns, her life has totally gone down the dumpster. She lost Tara who was just made Willow shine when she was with her, and who was a brilliant character on her own anyway. The only way I can see for Willow is a new relationship. It doesn't even have to be a love relationship more than a friendship. It would be very hard to replace Tara in the space of one season, but somehow the writers will magically do so...
The only one who has come out best from all of the actions of previous season's is probably Dawn. She is finally beginning to make sense in this whole show. If she never happened to come into Buffy, the show would be very very different now. One thing that I deeply admire anout her is her everlasting love and rememberence for her deceased mother. It is something that the writers of Buffy have done so effectively but without telling us so blatantly in every second episode. If only a picture of Joyce in the corner of the room. I understoof much of how Dawn was changed as a person from a child in the last two seasons. The writer's didn't kill Joyce off and then have Dawn as happy as every in the next episode, they made her character change. There will always be something missing in her life and it is something that makes her so unique and easy to relate to in this show.
Anya is much cooler as a brunette. I liked the flippy thing she did with her hair, her hair is always different in every episode, but this colour is a much needed change from the blonde. When Anya saw that Spike had his soul back in the bronze, and then proceeded to be hit by him. I was hoping that she was going to have a huge fight with him and Buffy. Anya looked so cool in demon mode, with flippy brunette hair to boot.
A part of me will always want Anya to get back together with Xander, while another part of me is happy that Anya will finally have the ability to come into her own in this show and not have her relationship with Xander constantly in front of her. Already we are seeing a different side to her which has grown from how she was at the end of season 6. The comment made by Xander to her about how many times Anya can use the excuse of being left at the alter by Xander, to be the cause of everything is probably a sign that they won't be binging that up too much in th future.
// Buffy Knows About His Soul! Gasp! Shock! The end of this episode was quite odd. Xander becoming his former bumbling self in front of the opposite sex again was something to laugh at. This Nancy chick was rather stupid, I didn't like her. The whole story about her boyfriend added to the fact that this episode was so filler. The reference to "From Beneath You It Devoues" by Spike and Buffy in this episode turned out not to be about the subterranean monster, but about the big bad who did his morphing trick at the end of the previous episode. The last scene was a bit odd. Earlier in the episode, Dawn pulled a total 180 with regards to her feelings towards Spike over the atempted rape which came up in flash back form again. Buffy was still very bothered by the atempted rape too and in the last scene she said barely anything. It was just Spike talking. He tells Buffy that he went to get his soul back becuase he wanted top be the man for her. I didn't think this big long speech to be much of anthing really. I did like the very well done camera angles in this scene. Buffy was again with her "Do I Smell Something" face. Spike ended up in front of a big crucifix. Fade to Joss.
