A memory of national school which I recall clearly is the time when my little brother told his teacher that I was going to stick a spud up the exhaust pipe of his car!
I was in fifth class at the time
and my teacher was Mr. Martin. My little brother was in infants and his teacher was Mrs.
Dunne. He was standing up for his daily news and told her what I was going to do. At lunch
she told Mr. Martin. After lunch he asked me about it.
He was laughing and everyone else was laughing as well. I was kind of embarrassed. Barry

I remember
when Mr. Dee was in the school and he used to make us laugh. He was good fun until you got
in trouble! One day I was fighting with Peadar Waters on the soccer pitch in fourth class.
He pulled us into his office and I was scared. He didn't give out to us that much. In the
end he told us to shake hands and bark like a dog. It was really funny. It still taught us
never to fight again. It's a memory of national school that I will never forget.

I remember
the first day at school. I walked in the door of the classroom. There I saw Mrs.
O'Brien. She showed us where to sit. The first day we played games and sang songs. My best
teacher was Mrs. Furlong because when we did a job she would give us money and very little
homework.

A funny
memory I have is when one of my friends was in a school play and he was acting as
Santa. His trousers fell down in front of everyone that were there that night. I was
embarrassed myself when I was dressed up as an elf in tights and I had to dance around a
fire when I was in a play in first class.

Before
Christmas on December 17th '98 the senior and middle classes had a concert. 3rd class
did "Oliver", 4th class did "The Smallest Angel" and 5th and 6th
classes did a selection of songs from around the world. We practised for about two hours
each day for a month in order for everything to be right. We learned songs from Africa,
America, France and Austria. We all got dressed up in our costumes and a local man, Ronnie
Weston, came to film the concert so people could buy it on video. Everyone enjoyed the
concert.

My best
memories of national school are of the school plays in the school. They were great fun and
they took a very long time to make the plays. My best play was the "Songs from Around
the World". I was a French man in the play. Fifth class were in the play with us.
There was singing and dancing. Mr. Martin, Mrs. O'Rourke and Mrs. Crowe prepared us for
the concert. Mrs. Murphy played the piano and two boys from fifth, Colin Maher and Brian
Morrissey played the drums and the guitar. It was my best play.

I
remember the first day in school. I didn't want to go! I started to cry and I couldn't
stop. When I got to the door my mother said goodbye and left. I went into the class and
stopped crying. I met all of the other children and we began to play. There were lots of
toys and the teacher was really nice. After a while it was time to go home so we got our
bags and waited for our parents. My mother was late so I began to play again. When my
mother came I began to cry again. I didn't want to go home!
