One minute to go and everyone's tense,

It is so exciting but, Oh! The suspense!

The fireworks lighting the sky up so bright.

The candles are burning what a sight!

Only seconds to go now it's been a great year,

What memories we'll have with midnight so near.

At last the countdown, five, four, three, two, one.

Happy 2000! Now the New Year's begun.

Let's have fun, the Millennium is here,

Lets give a great big cheer.

The bangers, the fireworks went on all night,

And gave my Gran a terrible fright!

The glasses of bubbly all around,

But Dad let one hit the ground.

Lights, fridge, computer all working right,

The Millennium Bug not even a sight!

New Year's Day the Millennium Bug came,

But Y2K was not its name.

We looked at everything that could be seen,

But we forgot the flu vaccine!!!

As I write about the Millennium

And the things that are to come,

I wonder will we live on Mars

Or will we drive flying cars!

I hope that peace will be here,

In every country far and near,

I wish that all will be friends not foes,

And dear God please make it so.

What I'd really like to see

In the century 2000 A.D.,

Is a computer with a human brain

To own one of these is my aim!

There will be new toys

To impress girls and boys,

There won't be dolls and teddies anymore,

There will be new games like never before.

The Millennium comes every thousand years,

And at twelve midnight everyone said "Cheers"!

The fireworks lit up the sky by night

And everyone got a candle to light, what a wonderful sight.

Everyone was talking about the Y2K bug,

But as it turned out it was just a storm in a mug!

All staff were on high pay,

For that particular day.

I leave you now as I finish my poem,

I'll tell you I spent my Millennium at home.

I wonder what it will be like, will it be like today?

I don't know what the future holds, so I really can't say.

Its a new century, a new year,

As I speak its coming near.

The countdown is beginning, my head it is spinning,

The churchbells they are ringing, everyone is singing!

Champagne bottles are bursting, everyone is full of cheer,

I'm so excited the Millennium is finally here.

Tonight is the Millennium, the biggest event,

A night to remember to the greatest extent.

Sixty minutes left, the time is ticking by,

The stars are twinkling in the sky.

Five! Four! Three! Two! One!

The year 2000 has finally come.

Bells are ringing, fireworks explode,

Everyone is dancing round the road.

On Millennium night to my amazed sight,

The sky went bright I looked at the sky. Oh! My.

There were loads of sparks,

I would give them ten marks.

And there was no bug,

It must have been made by a thug!

Now that's my poem, so you can all go home!

It has nearly started, just nearly begun,

I know this year will be extra fun.

The thing I just can't believe

Is that its already New Year's Eve.

But no ordinary New Yera's Day

Yes! You've got it. Its Y2K!

It was five to midnight the crowd went hush.

They were in no rush.

5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1, it was time we had some fun!

The clock struck twelve, the crowd went wild,

The old people acted like a child.

I know I will remember that day forever,

No other New Year's Day could ever be better.

A thousand years of waiting had finally come

But it went just as quick as the  bells had rung.

Fireworks and candles brought a great delight.

Heralding the message the world was all right.

Bells rang out champange flowed.

Music was played stories were told.

The countdown had started, the Millennium was near.

The computer bug had brought such worry and fear.

With the stroke of the clock the Millennium had dawned.

To the strains of Auld Lang Syne the New Year had come.

Now 1999 is gone 2000 has begun.

The Millennium happened a few weeks ago.

People were excited from head to toe.

There was a bug the Y2K.

No one knew what would happen that day.

Oh! Look at the fireworks people were saying.

All the children were dancing and playing.

People loved it and they did say.

I wish I didn't have to work the next day.

I can't wait until the year 00.

It will probably be all about spaceships.

The shops will be up high in the sky,

And the cars will be like aeroplane cars.

And the robots will probably ferry us around.

Make our dinner and clean the house.

There won't be anymore work to do.

Oh I can't wait until the year 00.

Three, two, one the Millennium has begun.

Everyone with their families joy all around.

The sky is glowing from the moon and the stars.

Boom, boom go the fireworks.

Red, green and white explode into the sky.

Everyone holding hands, peace is all around.

Ding! Dong! Go the church bells, people far and near.

Join hands and say a little prayer.

Now the Millennium has disappeared .

But it will always be in our hearts.

It's New Year's Eve five minutes to go.

The old year is nearly over, the new one is to come.

I am so excited, the fireworks are displayed.

I have waited so long for this day.

Now there are only ten seconds to go.

The countdown has started, the church bells have rung.

The fireworks are lit, shot into the sky.

All kinds of colours, a wonderful sight.

The New Year has started, no more '99.

There was no Millennium Bug.

The computers are fine.

I couldn't wait for the year 2000.

To see the fireworks high in the sky.

To see people dancing on the streets.

And listening to the countdown.

Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.

The year 2000 is here!

I'm only a little girl but I have opinions.

Oh yes I do.

Would you like to hear them.

I'm sure, I'm sure you do.

In 2000 will we have cars with domes for roofs.

And ones that can even fly.

With snazzy styles and colourful shades.

And an engine that goes rummmmmh!

Will we have new foreign foods.

With green gloop instead of soup.

And parents will say now eat up it's good for you.

And all the children will say is yuk!

I wonder, how I wonder will children have to write.

In those small school copy books.

Or will we have fast P.C.s.

Well, whatever the Millennium brings.

I hope it's all good luck.

So there we were, in a crowded room,

For all we knew we could be faced with doom!

The Millennium night but nothing was quiet,

In ten more seconds there'll be a wonderful sight.

So here we go, ten, nine and everything's fine,

Next we've got eight and we're running too late.

Let's skip to five, we're beginning to jive,

Now we're at four we're just about to score.

Three, two, one and '99 is gone.

The sky is bright on the Millennium night,

All the fireworks are forever in sight.

I finish this poem with a 2000 cheer,

And wish you all a happy New Year!
