Cruises and Islands

The Derg Princess, a 48-seat river bus, will take visitors on a short cruise from historic Killaloe into Lough Derg, the largest of the Shannon's spectacular lakes. Take a 30 minute Ferry trip to the Aran Islands from Doolin, one of the last outposts of Gaelic Civilisation where Irish is still spoken or take a catamaran from Liscannor.

You can also visit Scattery Island, by ferry from Kilrush Creek Marina. Scattery is the site of a monastic settlement and features a round tower and a number of ancient churches.

Holy Island lies just over 1 km from Mountshannon and is notable for its early monastic remains which date back to the 7th century. A small boat operates a number of daily sailings to the island, according to demand.
