Cahir House Hotel, Cahir, County Tipperary, Ireland.
Welcome to Cahir House
Hotel, Cahir, County Tipperary. |
Cahir House Hotel is a very unique Old
World Hotel:
It's history is an inextricable part of Tipperary's history.
Generations have used the hotel as the resting point on their
journey since the time of the Bianconi horse drawn coaches.
Cahir House replaced Cahir Castle in the 1770's as the ancestral
home of the Butlers of Cahir, whose titles include Barons of
Cahir and Earls of Glengall. Cahir House was 'home' to Lord
Cahir's family until 1961 when Richard Butler Charteris died,
thus ending a 600 year association between the Butlers and Cahir.
In 1927 Miss Nora Burke leased the premises and opened Cahir
House Hotel.
Over the years the hotel has paid host to such illuminaries as De
Valera, W.T. Cosgrave, Mae West, Douglas Fairbanks, Walt Disney,
Jackie Kennedy etc. A long tradition of warm Irish Hospitality
awaits the visitor to Cahir House Hotel.
Set like a jewel in the centre of the heritage town of Cahir, Cahir House Hotel offers the visitor an opportunity to enjoy modern comforts with old world charm and elegance.

The Castle Suite and the Galtee Suite:
In 1793 it was noted that
"Lord Cahir gave a most flaming fete champetre in Cahir
House where the company dined under marquees on the lawn and
danced all evening. Lady Cahir danced an Irish jig in her
stockings to the music of an old blind piper. We had a superb
supper in the three largest rooms, all crowded as full as they
could and we did not get home till eight o'clock in the morning
and so slept all the next day." (D. Herbert 1793). This
tradition for exceptional functions has been maintained down
through the years with famous Hunt Balls and Society Dinners
right through to the present day.
The uniquely traditional flavour of the cuisine is matched by the
quality of our function suites. Now refurbished to the highest
standard using traditional fabrics and furnishings, they offer
spacious elegance and comfort, combined with all the usual modern
amenities you'd expect.
