Hi! Its been ages since our last newsletter. Not that we haven’t been busy. In fact, as you’ll read in this latest edition of our newsletter, there has been a great deal going on.
Also in this newsletter are short articles by some of the people living here in Greenacres. Their views on ‘my life in Greenacres’ should offer you a personal insight on what lifesharing is all about.
Finally, we are once again holding our major annual fundraising event at Leopardstown Racecourse. This year it will take place on Wednesday 21st June. Full details are on the flyer.
Our New House
In Autumn last we finalized the purchase of a new Community house. No.29 Hazel Avenue is a lovely five bedroom family house in a quiet estate. Most importantly, the house is only a ten minute walk from the main Greenacres house. Our goal of establishing a neighborhood community is now in process of being realized.
Currently, Siobhan McCallion, Julie Thompson, Shane Nolan and Falk Osthus are living in ‘Hazel’. They have been working hard to up-grade the facilities and redecorate. This includes the installation of a new wood pellet central heating system with solar back-up. Our goal is to make the house truly sustainable both in a social and ecological sense.
Music Night
A reminder to all our friends that we extend a warm welcome to our regular music nights. These take place on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, starting at 8.00pm. We have been very fortunate to have a Country and Western band come and play with us. Affectionately known to us as ‘Herbie and the Boys’, the band play a range of C&W classics and encourage active participation from all present.
Craft Stall
We now have a regular craft stall at the Pearse Street Food Coop market. This takes place in St Andrews Community Center at the canal basin end of Pearse St. At the moment, the stall is there on the 4th Saturday of the month. You’ll find a wide range of craft items, all handmade in Camphill workshops throughout the country.
Selling the crafts made in Camphill workshops is obviously one point to the stall. Equally important is the goal of letting people know about Camphill.
Up-coming Talks
We have a number of public talks coming up. All are in Greenacres at 7.30pm. All are welcome!
16th May: ‘Meditation’ Sean Byrne
23rd May: Hauschka Cosmetics
30th May: ‘Meeting Spiritual Beings’
Russell Evans
9th June: Biodynamic wine tasting
The Future at Greenacres
This year we will be in discussion again with the sisters of the Religious of Christian Education (RCE), the owners of the Greenacres property.
As many of you will know, we are currently on a short-term lease and this is due to run out in May 2007. Our hope is that we can arrive at some mutually beneficial agreement with the RCE and thereby be able to remain in Greenacres.
If this is the case, we will finally be able to settle in properly. We have ambitious plans for improving the facilities and expanding the range of opportunities we offer.
We will, of course, keep you informed on developments.
4th Annual Leopardstown Racenight Fundraising Event
On Wednesday 21st June we will be once again having our hugely successful racenight in Leopardstown. Apart from being a great evening out for all our friends and supporters, this has become an invaluable source of much needed investment funds.
Full details are on the enclosed poster. We hope to see you there!!

‘My Life in Greenacres’
Living in Green Acres I have a nice breakfast with the Camphill family. I help with the washing up a lot. At the gathering we sing a hymn and then I leave for work. I work at Corris doing addresses for envelopes and I pack boxes of jam jar lids for supermarkets. I also do jigsaw puzzles. I have a very nice boss. My favourite jigsaw puzzle is London Bridge and I am nearly finished it. For lunch we have oxtail and tomato soup, we have stew for the main course and for pudding we have ice cream. In the afternoon when I come home from work I do computer lessons with Lynn and I enjoy it. I love playing solitaire and like making colours game, typing stories and poems. Every Tuesday I go bowling. Recently I got a medal in the team events. I won gold. On Wednesday’s I go to the Arch Club with Mary where we dance and play bingo. On Friday nights we watched a video which was about the titanic which sunk in the sea. I like living in Greenacres because there are lots of people and it’s entertaining. I play songs by The Beatles on the piano in the evening and my favourite song is Let It Be. I enjoy our music sessions on a Tuesday evening because the band are very good. That’s all from me I hope you enjoy it.

I have been living in Camphill Greenacres for seven months and now living in our new house Hazel with three other people which is within walking distance. The first time I saw a notice about a vacancy available in Greenacres I went for a visit and last year I decide to leave The Bridge Community after many enjoyable years there.
I cook the lunch in Hazel on Tuesdays and the six of us go bowling in The Leisureplex in Stillorgan. We are part of a new Special Olympics club. The team wear red tee-shirts. We go every Tuesday at six. I also play football on Monday’s for Stillorgan Rangers. I am the team goalkeeper and we play in division two. This is also a Special Olympics club. I look forward to watching the national games which will be held in Belfast in June.
Each Thursday I go to a gardening course which I find interesting and complete our work sheets and do practical garden work on site. I now work in The Airfield Trust, a large garden, doing a variety of tasks from weeding to planting shrubs. At the moment I work a full day and I hope to increase my working hours. I would like to expand my gardening experience and potentially go into business.
We sell Camphill crafts at a stall once a month in a market in Dublin centre. I enjoy going to the cinema and watching my favourite team Arsenal in the pub and playing the guitar. I also read books and Arsenal magazines, enjoy listening to a mixture of music from pop to rock. I like going for walks in parks and maybe do a course in photography and so to enjoy nature. We have a music evening once a month in Greenacres which is a great social night. Since I came here I am having a new experience and made lots of friends and made a special friend call Siobhán Humphreys.

When I first came to Camphill in Dublin I had a trial for three months. I moved here because I wanted a change and to do something different. When I moved to Greenacres I was doing lots of walking and visited other places. This helped me get to know the place and now I am living here three years. I really love living here and enjoy walks especially at the weekend.
When I came here for a trial I was doing pastel art for about three months and then I was doing watercolours in Airfield as part of our class and now I am doing oil paintings. I also sold three pictures at an exhibition.
In my spare time I enjoy the cinema, particularly Shrek films. I started to do bowling last September and now I’m a member of a local club where I play every Tuesday evening with the Greenacres group. I work in Airfield Café as a waitress three short days a week. In Greenacres I contribute to the household duties. There is lots of action going on in the weavery as we create our own designs. I have designed and made table mats.
I am confident to go places by myself. I am good to Greenacres and give them a helping hand by doing messages. I have a free day by myself doing what I have to do once a week. I also do computers twice a week and enjoy typing. I do the cooking twice a week I make the lunch and whatever is needed for the house. Gardening I do sometimes but a lot in the summer. I really enjoy living in Camphill in our new house Hazel.

One day Katri and Julie invited me to Greenacres for a visit. I really liked the place. While I was given the grand tour I met Siobhan H. Julie thought it would be a good idea for me to experience life outside Greenacres on the local farm, The Airfield Trust, as I like animals. Work in Airfield is very busy, cleaning the geese and feeding the animals.
We go bowling every Tuesday evening after a light snack. The Greenacres team all go together by minibus and everybody has a cool time.
A gang of us would set off in the minibus for the Wicklow hills frequently. We go there to have a very enjoyable walk where people are running and chasing after each other having nice chats along the way.
I enjoy going shopping with my family buying nice clothes. I also help with the grocery shopping. Quite often I go to the local cinema with my friends and family. I also like watching videos and Dvds a lot. I really enjoy watching comedy movies with all my friends.
Every Wednesday Andrew and I go to the Arch Club where we play bingo and table tennis. Later on we have some tea and cake. A bit after tea we do some dancing. Every Friday we read a novel and this month we are enjoying a book named Momo.
My really good friend is Siobhán Humpries. I really enjoy cooking and baking. Katri and I often have nice chats. I go home quite often. Julie is also my very best friend.

I came to Greenacres by writing an article how I knew about Camphill and why did I want to come and live here? The first person I met was Katri. Every second Tuesday I go bowling with the Greenacres and some Hazel Avenue gang. I have lessons with Lynn Doyle on the computer. I have so far learned how to do a timetable, names and phone numbers and so on. On Friday afternoons I go to one of my aunts houses. Friday evening’s my friends and I go to each others houses. In Greenacres I do gardening, felting and baking. Saturday afternoons I meet up with my friends and sometimes my man Shane. Every second Tuesday there is a band playing music. Later on I may be practicing guitar with Shane Nolan for the next music session. Monday coming, Mary and I are getting a day off from our work place, The Airfield Trust, to enter a bowling competition against a location named Bray Lakers. A friend of mine and I work in the loveliest place ever, Airfield Trust which is a farm. In Airfield there are animals, a car museum, a farm museum, restaurant and a shop and so on.
In Airfield I give schools a tour on the farm. I work five days a week in Airfield. In Airfield, we had camera guys from TG4, Bull Island, Winning Streak, Garden Heaven and Off The Rails. I got taped by TG4 by a camera crew, I explained what I did with the animals I work with.
