Thanks to the very generous offer of the nuns of the Religious of Christian Education, and the initiative and hard work of Julie Thompson and the support group, Greenacres, Dublin’s first Camphill Community, is up and running.
Arriving at Greenacres in the Summer will be Noel Bruder, Katri Halme and their three children. We are currently looking for two special needs people, (in the first instance from within Camphill), to join us as the core group. We believe that joining this Camphill initiative would be a great opportunity for someone looking for a new direction and dimension in their life.
We envisage a continuation and expansion of some of the workshops and meetings already happening, and the introduction of day services for special needs from other service providers in the Dublin area. This could include gardening, domestic skills, music therapy, creative arts and crafts etc. We would hope that some of this could happen in conjunction with the Airfield Trust.
We would like to keep the facility of B&B for Camphillers coming to Dublin for appointments or holidays, and extend this to include respite care for a few people, especially those with no other family.
The Airfield Trust, whose lands adjoin Greenacres, is now being developed to provide cultural, recreational and educational activities to the people of Dundrum and surrounding areas. The estate includes a large house, a 40-acre mixed farm, and several farmhouses. There are facilities for artists, a classroom complex as well as tearooms and a market. Airfield have offered a cooperation with us in sharing facilities and work opportunities.
Since the conception of Greenacres as a possible Camphill community, the torch for the project has been carried by a group of people from different Camphill communities and representatives from parents’ groups. These include
Katri Halme, Camphill Carrick-en-Suir
Noel Bruder, Camphill Carrick-en-Suir

Pearse O’Shiel, consultant and trainer, co Clare
Michael Hilary, Parent

Vehicle – estate car or mini-bus
Gradual upgrading of beds and bedding
Stacking or wooden chairs
Large cupboards (kitchen and crafts)
Regular help with cooking, cleaning, and garden. This is already happening and has been fantastic. It would be great if more people could come at a fixed time each week, for an hour or so.
There is also the possibility of starting some day services in a limited way (probably 1 day a week), but it would need someone else to be around as back-up.
