The Environment has become a hot topic of conversation over the last number of years. Gone are the days when people simply dumped and polluted anywhere they wanted. It seemed that fish kills were an everyday occurrence and toxic wastes were dumped in any quarry available without any regard for ground water supplies. Whether you live on a farm or a standalone house the environment should remain close to all our hearts. Recycling of paper, glass, cardboard, aluminium and plastic should be foremost in our minds. Recycling facilities are now available in Whitechurch and Glenville and it is hoped that Carraig na bhfear will have it's own in the near future.

Cork County Council have identified Bottlehill Woods (Owned by Coillte) as the answer to Cork's waste storage nightmare, they propose to transform this beautiful amenity into a Super-Dump to cater for the landfill needs of the entire county and probably beyond. This will mean the loss of a valued amenity for the area, traffic pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, leakage of toxic effluent into our groundwater supplies and many more proven links between dump locations and human/animal health issues.
