Born on Risa, in 2344, as a result
of a one night stand with one of the scantily clad Risean girls and an
unknown human, André DeTorro adopted his mothers surname and grew
up on Risa with very little care and attention. At the age of eight his
mother was killed in a transporter accident and he was adopted by a human
family and lived the rest of his childhood years in Madrid, Spain. He grew
an interest in Starfleet and in 2362 joined the academy. He passed the
course with flying colours – taking top mark in the navigational test –
and it was soon obvious he was going to be a natural leader. His first
posting was on the USS Phoenix and he was soon promoted to a full Lieutenant.
Captain Benjamin Maxwell took a liking to him and within a few years he
was Lieutenant Commander and First Officer aboard the ship. When he heard
of Maxwell’s plans to kill Cardassians, DeTorro immediately transferred
to the Excelsior Class USS Repulse, sacrificing his position as first officer
and the chance to climb the promotion ladder quicker, for his own beliefs.
On the Repulse he participated in what was to be the most memorable moment
of his career so far. A small passenger freighter had crashed in the Minos
System (fighting machines anyone?) and he led the away team to the planet
to rescue them. Many of the away team were killed by the Minosan drones
but DeTorro single-handedly rescued 15 of the 24 crew aboard the ship.
This selfless act gained him promotion to Commander and the Federation
High Class Medal of Honour, and his name was written in the President of
the
Federation’s personal Role of Honour.
He was soon snapped up by Captain Erika Benteen and was assigned to the
USS Lakota. He was given his position as First Officer and enjoyed a secret
romance with the Captain that lasted for almost 2 years. At the beginning
of 2377, André DeTorro was given his Captaincy by the Federation
High Council and given command of the new Defiant Class USS Facsimile NCC
– 72009.
