Cashel Sea Anglers Fishing Competition

The Cashel Sea Anglers annual fishing competition took place in beautiful weather conditions on sunday 13th august.There was a record entry for this ever popular event with 16 crews participating ,three to a boat,with the start at 10am and the weigh in at 5pm at lettercamps pier.The day was reasonable for fishing and it proved to be one of the most closely fought competitions ever held which led to an exciting weigh in.The winning crew were Paraic Cloherty, Marty Keaney & Seamus Cloherty with an overall weight of 272 lbs and they were presented with the Johnny Mcdonagh perpetual cup by his granddaughter Rachel Mc Donagh. They were followed very closely by the crew of Robert O'Donnell, Patrick O'Donnell &Tommy Sullivan with 270.5 lbs and third place were the crew of Eugene o Carroll, Annie O Carroll, Micheal Lydon with 245 lbs.In 4th place were the defending champions from 2005, JJ Nee, Francis Nee and Edward Folan with 238.5 lbs,5th place was Conal Walsh, Joe Folan & KevinJoyce with 227.5 lbs, 6th place was Paraic Jennings, Mairtin Jennings and Brian Cunningham with 165.5 lbs, 7th place was TJ Conroy, Peter Conroy, Cormac Walsh with 164 lbs, 8th place was Micheal Folan, John M Folan and Paraic Gorham with 145 lbs, 9th place was Morgan Folan, Conor Folan and Agnes Blake with 138 lbs,10th place was Paul Lee,Robert Lee and Aisling Flaherty with 136.5 lbs,11th place was Micheal Cunningham snr, Bob Greene and Micheal Cunningham jnr with 111 lbs and 12th place was John McTavish, Kevin Kelly and David Kelly with 88 lbs. In the other categories the ladies cup was won by Annie O Carroll, the species prize went to the boat of Gerard Linnane, Micheal Staunton and Brian Staunton who had nine species.The heaviest fish prize of a fishing rod sponsered by John Stanley of Clifden went to Eugene O Carroll with a 5 pound 11 ounce pollock and the u18 prize went to Peter Conroy with Aisling Flaherty in second place & Micheal Cunningham Jnr in third. In the raffle for competitors outside the top three boats there were lifejackets won by Michael Staunton, Micheal Cunningham Jnr & Donal Nee.The guess the winning weight was won by Conal Walsh.Thanks goes to the Cashel Sea Anglers committee of Paul Lee, Eugene O Carroll, Sean Brennan, Michael Moylan & Bernard Lee for organising the event Llyod Boulger for doing the weigh in, Phil Cloherty for recording the weights,Sean Nee and Mary Ellen McDonagh for assisting at the weigh in area, Paddy Mcdonagh who was in charge of the safety boat for the day & all who contributed in any way to making the event a huge success.The committee hope to hold their annual race night fundraiser later this year and will be looking for good support in this venture .
