There is alot to do in Castlegregory and The Maharees - everything from going to some great pubs and restaurants to exciting watersports and golf. There is plenty of accommodation and services in the area. Dingle is just a short drive away from Castlegregory.

Castlegregory and The Maharees contain some of the best beaches in Ireland - the beaches in The Maharees have received The Blue Flag recognition since the blue flag identification of beaches has begun. This means the water there is of the highest quality and very safe to swim in.

Castlegregory got its name from a local chieftain - Gregory Hoare - who lived during the 16th century and built a Castle where the village now stands. The Castle was destroyed during a battle with Cromwell's forces in 1649.

I have been visiting Castlegregory and The Maharees since 1971 and I have always had a great time there during the summer season. While I am there I stay in Sandy Bay 1 caravan site in The Maharees - this is just 2 miles from the village of Castlegregory and a mile and a half from the pier and a beautiful sea food restaurant - Spillanes which is situated on the tip of the peninsula. You can eat some beautiful Salmon salad or Steak or lots more there and watch the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean and Brandon point.
