Castlemartyr GAA

Juvenile Tour 2002

The Castlemartyr Juvenile tour took place on Saturday 29th June. This year saw them travel to Ennis to take on the local Eire Óg Club at Under 12 and Under 14 hurling. It was a great experience for the Castlemartyr young lads to travel and take on new opposition, and everyone acquitted themselves quite well. Special thanks to John Sherlock, Chairman of Eire Óg Juvenile club and to everyone at the club, for their co-operation in the outing arrangements and for the welcome and refreshments later.

Next stop was the Clare Inn Hotel, near Newmarket-on-Fergus for Lunch and some relaxation after the morning endeavours. After this break it was on to Thurles for the Cork v Limerick championship game. This was an added bonus for the tour as this fixture was only made because both teams had lost and were going through the qualifying campaign. This was the highlight of the day as it was a great opportunity for many young players to see a top class championship game, and with Cork emerging victorious by one point, it was made all the more sweeter.

The mood for the trip home was a happy one, and an unofficial song contest held on the bus, was won by Eoin Lawton. Final stop of along day was Koehane's in Midleton for chips and on to home for the end of a long, but successful day.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the day possible as day's like this can only be good for building a strong and united club and giving children something they will remember for many the long day.
