Friends and Patrons of the Copper Coast

The Monksland Church of Ireland in Knockmahon has been lying neglected
and unloved for so many years now, that it has been in real danger of falling
down. But help is at hand and this lovely old landmark is now being conserved
and renovated to act in its new dual role as a centre for the local community
and the Geopark.

Monskland after the installation of temporary windows
The Monksland Church as in March 2009

So far, the new roof has been built, the vestry restored and an electricity
supply installed. Early 2009, a new floor was laid, making the building more
useable and temporary windows were installed. The windows were kindly
donated by Bridget Ng of Copper Coast Hair & Beauty, Benvoy, Co.
Waterford.

Stage 2 will incorporate a sympathetically-designed extension to the back
with toilets, community meeting rooms, kitchen and bistro.

Needless to say, this has involved a huge voluntary effort and fortunately we
have been granted funds from many sources to help. However while funds
from these bodies are not drying up completely, they need to be matched by
local efforts if we are to complete this project, the aim of which is to benefit
the whole Copper Coast Community.

We are now applying to the relevant agencies for further funding. They
normally use a formula which is based on fund raising efforts. An example
would be that for every €100 donated locally, €300 becomes available from
the funding agencies.

It would be greatly appreciated by the community and the Geopark if you
would consider donating to one of the three schemes that we have put into
place.

It isn't all give because the charitable status of the Copper Coast Geopark
Ltd. allows income tax to be reclaimed by donors although if you feel
generous, that can also be donated. The three categories are:

* "Friends of the Copper Coast" for an annual donation of €50 or more, this
will entitle the donor to constant updates on events and developments and
invitations to all functions.

* Or for a €250 once-off donation, you can have the same entitlements as
above along with a permanent commemorative plaque.

* Or become a "Patron of the Copper Coast" with a contribution towards a
specific project, which would have an even greater acknowledgment. For
example: a sponsored replacement window or a dedicated room, etc, which
would carry a suitable inscription to you and/or your family.

If you wish to become a Friend or Patron of the Copper Coast, please
download the form, fill it and send it back.
