Artists Statement
I often question the need to make art, the compulsion to create imagery and the attempt to articulate fleeting ideas and concepts. It is certainly a frustrating activity requiring large amounts of time, energy and creativity - often with dubious results! I only know that I must do it, that it would be wrong not to and I am almost certain that in this life-time I will never be able to answer why this is so.

Excerpts from Art Critique Written By Vera Ryan

"Through very direct carving in wood he developes themes of ancient deities, whose presences were intuited in the landscape. Nature for him is a quasi-human, not necessarily benign, but powerful presence". "He goes to pre-monotheist cultures to see forms, images and stories which acknowledge nature as powerful. Thus some of the sculptures have a slightly Oceanic, African tone; others are Celtic. He uses the totom pole structure at times incorporating it into an Irish context". "The work is vigorous and honest and developes debate on urgent and topical issues such as gender and ecology. The energy and vitality of Artists like Denis Lynch and the exploratory nature of his work surely attests to a society where Art at last, or once more, may find a central place.".
