Flowers and Other Interests

by

Mrs May Boyce

All Blooms belong to nature,

We folks just lend a hand.

But tonight we turn another sod

We are in Computer land.

You may say, "That has no bearing"

With it’s "Slash and then Dot Com"

It’s another way to reach you

We’re so glad you came along.

You may not have broad acres,

A little space will do.

One season and you could be hooked

With flowers of every hue.

It’s an interesting interest

It’s much healthier than the Telly

A little digging now and then

Could reduce the tyre around your *****

You are all very welcome

That has been already said.

Now the next time you go trawling,

You may find us on the Web.

When the kids say, "She’s gone Potty"

Don’t get angry! There’s no need.

It’s simply means that you’re out there

We hope you’re sowing seeds.

The Cobh Flower Club

by

Margot Allen

If you have some time to fill

We’ve got something really brill

chorus:

Here’s up em all

Sez the Cobh Flower Club

Don’t spend your spare time in the tub

Come on down and join our club

Flower arranging was our thing

We used to do some gardening.

Now we’re going on the net

A better site you’ve never met.

We used to be "horticultural"

Now we’re all "technological"

We’ll take the wind out of your sail,

By sending you an E-mail.

No need to worry about that mouse

When you’re alone in the house.

If you think you’ll like software,

Just surf the net if you dare.

Would you know a gigabyte,

If you met one here tonight.

We’ll put a smile on all your faces,

Just chuck out all that oasis.

We have no more demonstration,

Just lots and lots of computation.

No more "green" codology,

We’ll settle for technology.

Instead of arranging Poppies,

Just download them onto Floppies.

Pedestals were our lot,

But Cyber space – they are not.

Triangles and Hogarth Curves,

They’re all getting on our nerves.

Wires and tapes and secateurs

No longer vie with computers.

18 Euro for the year,

For what you get, it’s not too dear.

So if you want to join our club,

Just come on; pay up your sub.
