Events

The Society holds lectures, during the Winter months, and outings, during the Summer months, for Members to attend.

The programme for 2000 is as follows:

Spring/Autumn 2000

Sunday 14th May 11.00 a.m.:
Assemble at the sign for Coolcower House, at the Cork side of the Inchigeelagh junction, on the main Cork/Macroom road, visiting sites in the Kilnamartyra/Dundareirke area

Sat/Sun/Mon 3rd, 4th, 5th June:
The Midland Outing
Bus including badge fees £35; non bus members badge fees £6

Wednesday 14th June 7.15 p.m.
An evening visit to Shandon with the Revd. Brian O'Rourke. Meet at Shandon Church steps

Sunday 18th June 11.30 a.m.:
South East Cork: Assemble in the car park of Barryscourt Castle, visiting the Castle and other sites

Sunday 9th July 11.00 a.m.:
East Cork/West Waterford Outing: Assemble in the car park at the rear of Lismore Hotel, sites to include Cappoquin and Mt. Melleray

Wednesday 26th July 7.15 p.m.:
Douglas Evening: Assemble at gate of St Luke's Church, Douglas

Sunday 13th August 11.00 a.m.:
Mid-Cork Outing: Assemble at Carrigadrohid village. Sites to include Carrigadrohid Castle, Aghina Graveyard and Carriganima

Sat/Sun 16th, 17th September:
Adare/Limerick Outing
Depart Emmet Place on Saturday at 10a.m. Take Cork/Limerick road (N20) as far as the T-junction before Patrickswell, turn left on to the N21 for Adare (Tralee direction). Reassemble in Adare, at 12.15p.m. in the car park behind the Adare Heritage Centre and Bord Fáilte office. Visiting sites in Limerick city on the Sunday.
H.Q. Hotel: Woodlands House Hotel, Adare; tel. 061-396118; D+B&B: £55 (single suppl. £10): reserve directly mentioning CHAS with deposit of £20.
Bus including badge fees £25; non bus members badge fees £5

  1. On all outings, entry charges may apply at certain sites
  2. For both of the "Away Weekends" it is necessary for bus members to stay in the H.Q. hotels
  3. Picnic lunch is an option on all outings
