MEDIA COVERAGE

For many years we have complained about the lack of coverage and unfair treatment that the National League gets from corners of the media. In no specific order I will go through the papers and my opinions on each.

THE IRISH TIMES

The Irish Times coverage and treatment has considerably improved in the past year with Emmet Malone a good writer for the National League. Annoyingly games are ignored and transfers in the summer are ignored and the Premiership still gets loads more coverage

THE IRISH INDEPENDENT

This paper is pro Dublin Dons which makes it an avoid which is unfair on Gerry McDermott [a] because he is a Dundalk fan and [b] he has to write along with Philip Quinn who is a disgrace to the National League. McDermott is still an excellent writer.

THE IRISH SUN

Coverage on Pats in Europe is impressive although it still will probably revert to Premiership when season starts. Still quite good

IRISH MIRROR

Premiership still leads in this paper by a wide margin. Way behind the other tabloids

THE STAR

The Star is very good with transfer news and match reports but the most annoying thing about it is that Irish writers write about the Premiership in it and it's Fantasy League . Best of the three tabloids by a long way.

THE EXAMINER

I don't get the chance to look at the Examiner but when I do their coverage seems to be comphrehensive enough

EVENING HERALD

Coverage of the League is poor at the very best. Burns quickly

SUNDAY TIMES

Definitely the worst. In the preview for Pats v Celtic the only sentence was" a new low for Scottish football beckons".The main article written was to say how bad the National League still was and it had comments from Eamonn Dunphy. Gives infinite GAA coverage and on the national team but no National League. Rubbish.

SUNDAY INDEPENDENT

The same as the weekly independent only worse. Gerry McDermott saves it from being terrible. Their main soccer writer is Dion Fanning who has never once mentioned the National League. Useless

SUNDAY PAPERS

I never read the Tribune or Sunday World so if you do mail me and tell me what their coverage is like.

THE ARGUS

A Dundalk paper the Argus gives Dundalk news nearly all the time but their coverage in relation to the Gaelic is frustratingly awful as is their excitement when another young player departs to England soon to be back

DUNDALK DEMOCRAT

Basically the same as the Argus nothing special, could be better

*** IRELAND ON SUNDAY [ THE TITLE ] ***

By far the best for National League it is a must read but has it's faults. Aidan Fitzmaurice is intent on advertising players for England, Niall Quinn who talked me down during the World Cup when I got a message on about the National League writes for them and it is normally pushed to the back after the reports on Saturday's Premiership games. Yet the coverage is comphrehensive. David Kelly who writes for them is a genuine fan and puts forward good views. Friendlies , transfers are reported on .You are guaranteed 3 pages of National League news with interviews . It is the only paper that is COMPLETELY anti-Dublin Dons. I buy it , you should
