Gospel Readings
A
Reading from the Gospel according to Matthew
5:1-12
Seeing the crowds, Jesus went
up on the mountain,
and when he sat down his disciples came to him.
And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. "Blessed
are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall
be satisfied.
"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons and daughters
of God.
"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs
is the kingdom of heaven.
"Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all
kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted
the prophets who were before you

5:13-16
Jesus said to the crowds,
"You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall
its saltness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown
out and trodden under foot.
"You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hid.
Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it
gives light to all in the house.
Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good works and
give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

A
Reading from the Gospel according to Matthew
7:21, 24-29
Jesus said to the crowds,
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of
heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a
wise man who built his house upon the rock;
and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that
house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a
foolish man who built his house upon the sand;
and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that
house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it."
And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his
teaching,
for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

19:3-6
And Pharisees came up to
Jesus and tested him by asking,
"Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?"
Jesus answered, "Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning
made them male and female,
and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined
to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
So they are no longer two but one flesh.
What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder."

22:35-40
And one of them, a lawyer,
asked Jesus a question, to test him.
"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"
And he said to him,
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind.
This is the great and first commandment.
And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbour as yourself.
On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."

A Reading
from the Holy Gospel According to Saint Matthew
25:31-46
Jesus said
to his disciples,
"When the Son of man comes in his glory,
and all the angels with him,
then he will sit on his glorious throne.
Before him will be gathered all the nations,
and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep
from the goats,
and he will place the sheep at his right hand,
but the goats at the left.
Then the King will say to those at his right hand,
'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the
foundation of the world;
for I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
I was naked and you clothed me,
I was sick and you visited me,
I was in prison and you came to me.'
Then the righteous will answer him,
'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
or thirsty and give you drink?
And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you,
or naked and clothe you?
And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?'
And the King will answer them,
'Truly, I say to you,
as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'
Then he will say to those at his left hand,
'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and
his angels;
for I was hungry and you gave me no food,
I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
I was a stranger and you did not welcome me,
naked and you did not clothe me,
sick and in prison and you did not visit me.'
Then they also will answer,
'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or
in prison, and did not minister to you?'
Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you,
as you did it not to one of the least of these,
you did it not to me.'
And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal
life."

from the Mark
10:6-9
Jesus said
to the Pharisees,
"But from the beginning of creation,
'God made them male and female.'
'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his
wife,
and the two shall become one flesh.'
So they are no longer two but one flesh.
What therefore God has joined together,
let not man put asunder."

25
And behold,
a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying,
"Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
Jesus said to him,
"What is written in the law? How do you read?"
And he answered,
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbour as
yourself."
And he said to him,
"You have answered right; do this, and you will live."
But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus,
"And who is my neighbour?"
Jesus replied,
"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers,
who stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
Now by chance a priest was going down that road;
and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.
So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the
other side.
But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he
had compassion, and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and
wine;
then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of
him.
And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying,
'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come
back.'
Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbour to the man who fell among
the robbers?"
He said, "The one who showed mercy on him."
And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

A Reading
from the Holy Gospel according to John 2:1-11
On the
third day there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee,
and the mother of Jesus was there;
Jesus also was invited to the marriage, with his disciples.
When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to him,
"They have no wine."
And Jesus said to her,
"O woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come."
His mother said to the servants,
"Do whatever he tells you."
Now six stone jars were standing there, for the Jewish rites of purification,
each holding twenty or thirty gallons.
Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water."
And they filled them up to the brim.
He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the steward of the
feast."
So they took it.
When the steward of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know
where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew),
the steward of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him,
"Every man serves the good wine first;
and when men have drunk freely, then the poor wine;
but you have kept the good wine until now."
This was the first of his signs given by Jesus: it was given at Cana in
Galilee. He let his glory be seen and his disciples believed in him.

A Reading
from the Holy Gospel according to John 15:9-12
Jesus said
to the disciples,
"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you;
abide in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love,
just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.
These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy
may be full.
This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you."

A Reading
from the Holy Gospel according to John 15:12-16
Jesus said
to the disciples,
"This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
No longer do I call you servants,
for the servant does not know what his master is doing;
but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have
made known to you.
You did not choose me,
but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that
your fruit should abide;
so that whatever you ask the Father in my name,
he may give it to you."

Lord
A Reading
from the Holy Gospel according to John 17:20-26
When Jesus
had spoken these words,
he lifted up his eyes to heaven and said,
"I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through
their word,
that they may all be one;
even as thou, Father, art in me,
and I in thee, that they also may be in us,
so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them,
that they may be one even as we are one,
I in them and thou in me,
that they may become perfectly one,
so that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as
thou hast loved me.
Father, I desire that they also, whom thou hast given me,
may be with me where I am, to behold my glory which thou hast given me in thy
love for me before the foundation of the world.
O righteous Father, the world has not known thee, but I have known thee; and
these know that thou hast sent me.
I made known to them thy name, and I will make it known,
that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them."

Lord
