Bukit Lawang Orang-utan Reserve, Sumatra

Did a 2 day jungle trek through the Orang-utan reserve with Pat. August 1999. Just the two of us plus two guides, though we met with two Swiss girls at evening camp and trekked the second day with them.

Starting the 2-day jungle trek. The orang-utans come down from the trees looking for bananas.

Feeding the babies is cool. We also saw gibbons on a few occasions, but they stay high in the trees, never coming close to ground.

First of the leech bites. Pulled about 10 more leeches off me over the two days.

Great to be back trekking again. This is our 3rd jungle trek

Tarzan! No probs swinging on the vines - they're very strong.

We met up with these two Swiss girls at evening camp, both from Geneva. This is day two - we take the river back

A day and a half to trek here, but only an hour and a half by river to get back.

Bukkit Lawang village. Cooling off in the river after the trek.
