Jersey
Description
Most of the time, to the question
"describe the Jersey", you receive the following answer : "it is
lovely" ...
But this description needs precisions !
The Jersey is easy to recognize : it is small (around 3 feet 1/4 tall, and 1.000 pounds), and its eyes are brown and doe-like, beautifull. Its coat is brown to light grey or mouse color, with no spots, turning to a lighter shade underneath. A light band goes around the muzzle, which is usually black. |
The face of the Jersey is broad, with small incurving horns. Its body shape is off a dairy breed, noted of its angularity (protruding hips). | (Picture : http://www.usjersey.com) |
The cows have a very gentle nature, with early maturity, and most farmers say they are very clever. Its other qualities are : heat resistance, richest milk in percentage of butterfat and protein, high production level.
All these qualities make the Jersey a recommended choice for a family cow.
