"The Green Mile"
This film is the first film in a long time that has really blown me away, lenghty at 3 hours, but worth every minute of that time. From script writing to character development to acting to camera work this film excels at all.
"The Green Mile" tells the story of a man John Coffey who is sentanced to death by electrcution. This man however is no ordinary man, and the story developes into a really sad tale. I'm not going to give too much away as I don't want to ruin the story. The story really captivated the audience when I was in the cinema which contained only 50 people but on leaving almost half of them where crying (I wasn't one of them), showing and proving to me that this story was moving for all in the cinema.
The acting of Tom Hanks (Paul Edgecombe), Michael Clarke Duncan (John Coffey) and David Morse (Brutus "Brutal" Howell) to name but a few was superbe.
The film's title refers to the pristine green floors of Cold Mountain Penitentiary. Superintendent Paul Edgecomb, a quiet man, runs a tight ship with a merciful hand; after all, this is the last place his inmates will ever live to remember. The only snake in the cellblock is Percy Wetmore (Doug Hutchison), a sadistic guard and the governor's nephew. "I think he just wants to see one cook up close," says Edgecomb, and Percy gets more than one chance to watch a prisoner get the chair, and in grisly fashion. Enough said.
Although this film is based on a book by Stephen King, don't let that turn you away, the film is the most gripping I've seen in a long time, and I watch alot of Films. "The Green Mile isn't too violent. If its in a cinema near you, GO TO SEE IT.
