Ingredients

500 grams of plain flour
200 grams of margarine
200 grams of brown sugar
3 medium size eggs
4 teaspoons of ground ginger
A greased baking tray

What we did

  • Kellie, Leah and Michelle turned the oven on to 190 degress celcius.
  • Lisa, Vicky, Kellie and Shauna mixed the butter and sugar with their hands, into a creamy paste.
  • Ciara, Joann and Christine beat three eggs. They added them to the mixture.
  • Cathy mixed the ginger and the flour. We added this to the mixture in the bowl.
  • Everyone had a turn kneading the dough.
  • The dough was divided evenly among the girls. They each made their own shapes and letters.
  • All the girls enjoyed rolling out the dough until it was 1cm thick.
  • Miss McGee and Miss Ryan put the cookies on the baking trays and put them in the oven to bake.
  • The cookies baked for 20 minutes. They were taken out and left to cool.

Decorating our cookies.

Melissa, Margaret and Julie mixed the icing sugar and water on plates. They added pink or green food colouring to the icing. Each girl made some coloured icing and decorated their cookies. They also used piping sugar, jelly diamonds and other sugar decorations.

The girls placed their cookies on trays and showed them to the rest of the school.

Measuring our ingredients

The girls in 5th and 6th class adjusted the recipe, so that we would have enough cookie dough for the group. They multiplied the ingredients quantities by 4.
We used balance scales to weigh our flour, sugar and butter.
